The Coney Island Parachute Jump opened in 1939 for that year's World's Fair. The ride was moved to its current location in 1940. The ride closed in 1964. It sat derelict for many years, rusting steel cables blowing in the wind. It was restored by 2003 with structural restoration, new paint, and the lighting system you see here.
