One reason why #dndisnotforme is how this amorphous blob sucks out all the energy in the room. We never had a single D&D before or after its first publication. The ambiguity of being all things to all people is part of the popularity and yet that's not even a stated goal. You can't pin it down.

When I'm thinking of something, is usually custom-tailored scenarios for player characters.

Adventures aren't really my thing as #dndisnotforme, but I don't mind purchasing one if it's really good.

Vampire the Masquerade was the #ttrpg that made me start playing.

The fluidity we find in boardgames or videogames often isn't there for role-playing games.

It's taken as a selling point that you just show up, somebody runs it for you, and you don't need to learn anything.

Or you learn one thing and that's it for your whole life.

By keeping an eye on #ttrpg posts for the #dndisnotforme feed, I sometimes catch posts that harbour some resentment against TTRPGs.

Our hobby usually demands a lot of time and energy and it negotiates poorly around that. Is having the GM do everything and maybe pay that person the best we can do?

Love to see more child-like #ttrpg design. What's a combat? What's an adventure? What's all this stuff that immediately gets put into games by default? Why?

People want to believe they're getting a good thing from a popular brand because that success is gained through competition. It's more convenient to ignore how it's just based on money making more money by snuffing out any real competition.

The frustrating thing in #ttrpg history is that 4E follows from that rationale. But it doesn't have Hasbro levels of success, so game design thinking like that is banned from the company and it reverts into 5E. Which everyone copies from in order to make any money.

I also feel that although "the hobby" makes sense as the largest viable economical space, redefining it without including people who don't want to learn any #ttrpg sounds very empowering. But maybe not the right move.

Always keep in mind when something like #dnd is written just enough so that people on social media stop screaming and just buy the same damn thing again and again.
