I know next to nothing about #geology, but these rocks were laid down in layers a very long time ago. Then some enormous pressure caused them to buckle and lift upwards.

Corn is baled on a glowing field, while on the horizon the remains of an ancient castle are visible next to the sea. Dunstanburgh was started in 1313 by Thomas of Lancaster, son of Edmund, Lord of Embleton, to defend himself after he led the rebels who murdered Piers Gaveston.

#Dunstanburgh #Northumberland This stone in the wall at Dunstanburgh Castle caught my eye during a visit 14th May 2018. I did at first think the holes had been caused by human hand. Turns out the holes are bored by a bivalve mollusc, Hiatella arctica or Wrinkled rock borer.
