Brownish helvella/elfin saddle mushroom- a distinctive fungus with a fibrous stalk and strange wrinkly cap. This one has a hole in it surrounded by white mold of some kind.
Same helvella fungus, with a person’s hand for scale. The mushroom is roughly the size of the hand, taller than the width of the palm.
Giant western black elfin saddle (Helvella vespertina, most likely) found in our backyard, seems like it’s being parasitized by some mold.

Elfin Saddle mushrooms as far as the eye can see (in this pic, anyway). All the black dots are mushrooms. They’re black-stemmed with a black, brain-like cap.
