Year 4 had a brilliant time at West Stow this week, exploring what life was like in Anglo-Saxon Suffolk 🏺 The village dates back to AD 420—over 400 years before the Norman Conquest! #AngloSaxon #WestStow #HistoryInAction

In River Lark upstream of Flempton, great swathes of this jelly like substance on rocks and vegetation. Assume Bryozoans? The only other aquatic live fauna I saw in c300m was this Annelid worm & Water Slater (Asellus aquaticus). #chalkstreams #suffolk #RiverLark #WestStow 3/3
On a bright, autumn afternoon @FullersMill, Water Chickweed (Myosoton aquaticum) in bloom on banks, while under stones in River Lark, freshwater sponges & #invasivealien Signal Crayfish lurk. #wildflowerhour #spongethursday #WestStow #Suffolk #Brecks #Breckland #sundayvibes 2/2
Here's the confluence of the Culford Stream (11.2°C) tributary with the River Lark (10.4°C) at @FullersMill. Would have expected the Lark to be warmer than Culford Stream, a more pure #chalkstream? #RiverLark #Chalkstreams #CulfordStream #WestStow #Suffolk #Brecks #Breckland 7/9
Wonder if this could be a teeny Liberty Cap (Psilocybe semilanceata)?
And Snapping Bonnet (Mycena vitilis) growing on a twig?
And Russet Toughshank (Collybia dryophila)?

I wonder if this could be Amanita contui? Quite a lot of them at Ramparts Field, West Stow.
And could the 3 together be Butter Cap (Rhodocollybia butyracea var asema)?

Great to have the snorkelling company of Jude Allport's 15 yr old ace fish finding eyes - he found the Pike in Culford Stream. The water in Larkwood Lakes had cleared amazingly since Saturday - busy Daphnia? Good numbers of freshwater mussels in both stream & lake. #WestStow 2/2
Masses of Minnows in Culford Stream, the occasional Stickleback and a few Rudd as well as Roach.

Sublime swim in Culford Chalk Stream yesterday. Packed with fish (perhaps overspill from stocked Larkwood Lakes?). Lots Perch (including some looking quite red), Roach, Chub, Gudgeon & a Bullhead.

Delightful to snorkel in Larkwood Lakes today - thanks Tony Whittingham.
An amazing 16.8°C!! But recent algal bloom meant visibility poor.
Tadpoles and fish fry.
