During the #equinoxes the #Sun crosses the #Earth's equatorial plane. Thus it exerts no #torques on our equatorially-bulged #planet.

These two #equinoxes are very important. For one, it is only these two days when the Sun will rise directly East and set directly West. For another, “equinox” means "equal night" in Latin, capturing the idea that daytime & nighttime are of equal lengths everywhere on the planet.
