Found a fallen star in the garden. Earthstar mushroom (Geastrum sp.) with its rays spread and the spore sac ready. Plains peoples called them fallen stars, a sign of something special. OM-1 90 mm macro.

Kuivien lehtien ja risujen keskellä kaksi valko-vaaleanruskeaa pientä sientä.

Viime viikolla löytämältäni paikalta löytyi sitten tuoreempiakin maatähtiä. Eiköhän näistä voisi jo varovaisehkon tunnistuksenkin tehdä, eli kyseessä lienee neulasmaatähti. Ilostuttavia tällaiset erikoisennäköiset.

Kahden kuvan kollaasi; ylemmässä kuvassa kaksi ruskeavalkoista pientä sientä sammaleikossa neulasten ja kuivien lehtien ympäröimänä. Alemmassa kuvassa toinen sienistä lähempää kuvattuna.

Löysin viimevuonna muutamia maatähtiä, ja samaan paikkaan oli taas pari noussut. Olivat jälleen jo parhaat päivänsä nähneet, joten tarkempi tunnistus jääköön taasenkin yrittämättä.

Here is a nice #geastrum for #fancyFungi day (I just made that up). And a large brown mushroom that I have no idea what it is. Pacific Northwest, just outside my backdoor. #earthStarMushroom

Could these be Rosy Earthstars (Geastrum rufescens)?
And I wonder what species of caterpillar was snuggly tucked in under the rays of the larger one?
