However, while it's good to see it is being preserved, I can't help thinking it would have been better just to clean it up as it's lost some of its previous charm.

A ghost sign on the Melbourne Street entrance to the former Glasgow meat and cattle market in the East End of the city. As far as I can work out, it says No Entrance Except On Business.

A faded ghost sign the side of a building on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. I can't quite make out the first, but lower down it says: carpets, curtains, drapes, etc. Durable and inexpensive.

I love the font on these Bournville Cocoa signs on Nicolls Gallery on Dumbarton Road in the Thornwood area of Glasgow. I'm presuming they date from around 1900, when the shop started its life as a tobacconist and confectioners.

Family Department sign on the Ladywell Bar on Duke Street in the East End of Glasgow. Dating from a time when women weren't widely welcome in pubs, the Family Department was where they could buy alcohol for comsumption at home.

The ghost sign on it is for the bookbinding and printing firm McCormick and Company, which was founded by John McCormick in 1890 and survived until 2011.

This means the sign can be dated from between that year and 1966 when All-Figure Dialling was introduced in the UK, and the MER prefix was replaced with the code 637.

Love this ghost sign on Clarkston Road in Muirend. The MER refers to the nearby Merrylee Telephone Exchange, which was built in 1928.
