It had been centuries since anything floated down its currents. The river knew how to keep its secrets -it buried all of them at the bottom. The day will come when its banks will recede and the river runs dry. When everything there’s to know, good and bad, will be exposed for all to see.

We are hitchhikers, our expedition defined by a landscape made the way it is by our carrier.
We breathe and we drift and float downstream.

It must glitter as we pass through it, splashing our hands and dragging our feet through the endless journey the river is taking.
We have no oars, no motor, no sail – not that there is much of a wind to take us – only the river going on its way.

It’s hot on my skin. The sun is bright and high, shining green through the leaves who wave at us lazily as we float by. The rubber tire under me ought to be burning with the heat but the river water is cool, the languid flow keeping the worst of the summer heat from taking hold.

I know this memory. It’s old, but not so old that I’ve lost the sense of it, but neither is it so recent that it hasn’t yet flitted into the space in between real remembrance and fantasised half fiction.

Midnight blue Styx glows serene
Life to death, still in-between
Charon says stop it
Boat sinks as I rock it
We drift endless in velvet dream

Swimming with electricity
down a serene stream
of consciousness

Bouncing on bubbles
that only exist
in this artificial environment

Mother Earth keeps spinning
as we inhabitants
float toward the sea
as inhibitions dissipate

Time now irrelevant

A scary development
for crusty traditionalists

Tubing sounds like fun--
Gently floating downriver--
Careening is NOT!

Lying in the water,
in the summer sun,
floating down the river,
pretending to be a log,
humming the "Log Driver's Waltz".
Let's see where the river takes me.

Don'tcha just hate when you pass out in the middle of writing? 😅😂
(Also, I couldn't stop hearing Chris Farley's spirit yelling at me in the back of my head, something about living in a van down by the river? 😂)

On a journey down a river
I’m just a little stick.
A little twig
On a little trip
Free from control
Of how I roll and slip.
Over falls,
In shining sun.
In shadows flooded
By canopies above.

Waters warm or
Cool to touch
And clear right through
Or murky muck.
Whether currents be gentle
Or a little rough.

I’m glad to tumble where I go,
A little stick going with the flow.

Trickle, babble, slither, brook. I lay upon my back, helter-skelter as the river bends. No work no worry, I think as the calm water scent hits the ol' sniffer.
Can't describe it, like the flavour of it. It's a combination of minerals and fish poop, algae and roots.
The river flows anyway.

Pardon my French 🐱

Fallen in the river
Kitty swam like a champ
Until her little paw
Froze by a mighty cramp

She meowed in distress
And swallowed some water
“A wet p◡ssy shall moan”
The lesson life taught her

Sometimes
the currents of destiny
takes us to rivers
we never imagined
we would ever be

Sometimes
we wash ashore
and are unsure
if we'll ever get back

This is why
the best course
is to go with the flow

Cause at the end of the day
we're all going to end up
in the same place anyway

"We are going to get lost on an island or something," Hal said, as we floated down the river. His eyes widening from the mushrooms he had taken earlier.

"It's a river, Hal."

"Still."

"So, which one of us takes on the black smoke monster?"

"You, I am starting to feel the mushrooms."

letting the leaves drift out of my hands
head up, looking at the blue sky
wondering how many of all those tiny plants
are not visible to the naked eye.
Watching every wave in motion
closing my eyes, colors get dimmed
following the river into the ocean
listening to the soft wind

It was a roar, hungry and feral, frozen fangs ripping into my skin, and the River whispered murder. As my teeth chattered, I wondered why I had agreed to go canoeing.

Ophelia, semi-conscious, flowers and bracken clinging to the floating strands of her hair, had been borne a good way through the water when she awakened briefly with a last gasp before death and realized that she had made a mistake. She should pushed Hamlet into this river, not herself.

The only time Cosmo ever found peace in his childhood was in the woods. Sometimes he imagined himself floating down a river, escaping from his family and life in Utah. If he got out of this hellhole, maybe there will be a place for him. A place he'll be appreciated or maybe loved. #hbp89

One wrong step—
I expected to die in the Strid like the others. Yet I remain in the undercut, the hidden water, flowing yet still.
My body floated away ages ago, and my name followed.
Yet I remain with those who took me in, those I took in. I AM the Strid with the others.
Join us. One step—

Susan placed a flower a fold of the paper boat. She then placed the boat gently into the water like how she used to put Ben to sleep.

"We'll miss you, Ben," Susan whispered.

"We love you," my voice croaked.

I squeezed Susan's hand as we watched the boat float along the soft current.

Smoothly paddling down river in a kayak. It was fun going in trees. Lovely views as was the instructor.
We got to a pool, waiting for a couple of slower paddlers.
It was then that the instructor screamed and stuck her paddle at the wife's chest.
There on the buoyancy aid was a large spider.

Floating down river sounds so peaceful but wait, why am I or any body floating down a river? Is it by choice, accident or murderous intent? Personally, I can think of no reason I would. If if fell off a craft, also unlikey, panic then assured death would follow. Murder so reasonable.

Jany stared at the bank. “Where’s the plants and dirt?”
“This river doesn’t have ‘em,” Baf said. “The Mairkins made it.”
“They made RIVERS? Did they make oceans?”
“They made lakes. ‘Member the trip with Gama?”
Jany lit up. “Can we swim here?”
“No, here’s too fast. There’s a slow bit ahead.”
