The song of a robin can be described as a flutelike, warbling melody with a wistful and perky quality. It's a loud and clear sound, especially for such a small bird, and often one of the first songs heard in the morning and the last at night.

Key characteristics for a partially sighted person include:

The song is a string of notes that rapidly descend in pitch but increase in speed. It flows nicely, with pauses between verses, and some parts include soft trembling or squeakier notes.

Each song consists of various phrases, with new verses following one another, meaning there isn't much repetition. Some parts are quick and loud, while others are slower and softer, creating a dynamic and engaging sound.

The notes rise and fall in pitch but are delivered at a steady rhythm.

Robins are known for singing loudly and can even be heard at night, especially in urban areas where it might be too noisy during the day.

The overall impression is often described as cheerful, contemplative, and nostalgic, bringing a sense of peace and comfort to those who hear it.

For a partially sighted individual, focusing on the changes in tempo, volume, and emotional quality of the song will help build a vivid mental picture of this beloved bird's vocal performance.

A robin is a small, cheerful bird, like a tiny, plump person with a bright, fiery orange-red chest that feels warm and vibrant (like sunshine on your skin) against a soft brown back, with delicate brown wings and a sweet, quick song that's like a cheerful little whistle or bell ringing in the morning, and they hop around, tapping their feet with a quick, precise rhythm, making a light "tick-tick-tick" sound as they look for worms, feeling like a tiny, energetic presence nearby.

A European Robin sits on the metal frame of a porch door above the white step framed by a brown doormat and bright red wooden inner door. He is tilting his head to the left seeming to indicate the empty bird feeder that I had left before filling it and hanging in the garden. Was he dropping a hint for me to get on with it?

For the last #HolidayRobin or if you prefer #FestiveRobin young Roberto decided to invade the house or at least the front porch. Maybe it was the red door or just the empty feeder that he was inspecting. #photography #EastCoastKin

A European robin with a bright orange-red face and chest perches on a frost-dusted stone or branch. Its soft brown back and wings are gently fluffed against the cold, with fine feather detail visible. The bird faces right in profile, its dark eye catching warm sunlight, while the background falls away into softly blurred green foliage, creating a calm winter garden atmosphere.

Ok I’m off to walk the dog then probably drink too much, eat too much and sing badly much later. Take care of yourselves and those you hold dear. These things are all that truly matters in life. I leave you with my last #HolidayRobin and see you all tomorrow #birds #photography #EastCoastKin

Yesterday, I finally found some robins eating berries. Yes, in this part of the world, where the “robins” are thrushes, they eat berries, unlike the original robins in Europe, that are flycatchers and eat bugs. Both bring joy to the season as #holidayrobin and we are grateful.

This photo shows a European robin perched on a bare tree branch. 🐦

The bird has its classic bright orange-red face and chest, which contrast beautifully with its soft brown back and wings and pale, fluffy underside. Its dark, round eye gives it a gentle, alert expression. The robin is angled slightly to the side, showing fine feather detail along the wing and body.

The background is softly blurred and bright, likely an overcast sky, which helps the robin stand out sharply against the scene. Overall, it’s a calm, intimate wildlife moment that highlights the robin’s delicate features and wintery setting.

A European robin stands on a dark, weathered tree stump, facing slightly left. Its bright orange-red face and breast contrast with its soft brown back, wings, and tail, and its pale grey-white belly is visible beneath the breast. The robin’s fine black beak points downward toward several pinkish-brown peanut pieces scattered on the stump, with small green shoots of grass emerging from the damp, rough wood. One slender leg is visible as it balances alertly, its dark eye sharp and watchful. The background is softly blurred in muted greens, suggesting woodland or garden foliage, which draws focus to the bird’s detailed plumage and the feeding moment in the foreground.

When it comes to Britain's favourite bird, the robin, the myths, and folklore surrounding it are as colourful as its breast. For centuries, this tiny bird has been the symbol of good luck, happiness, rebirth - and sometimes even as a messenger for lost, loved ones.

There are tales stretching back to Norse mythology where the robin is the protector from storms and lightning. And in Celtic folklore the robin is known as the Oak King of Summer.
