Today we conducted the first release of the rosette weevil (Ceratapion basicorne), a biocontrol agent for invasive yellow starthistle, in Oregon! Here I'm carefully sprinkling the tiny insects in a cage, which we'll remove in a few weeks. #IPM #weed #biocontrol #InvasiveSpecies #weevil #insect

Two circular photos with images of pests, next to text describing the damage they cause to citrus trees. The first photo is a close-up of a light green citrus leaf with a dark, serpentine tunnel visible underneath the surface of the leaf where a leafminer larva has burrowed, and an adult leafminer, which is a small, slender, silver-colored moth with feathery wing tips. The accompanying text box says “Citrus Leafminer: Citrus leaves damaged by citrus leafminer larvae are rolled and distorted.” The second photo is of a white, fuzzy cottony-cushion scale insect resting on a citrus tree twig. The accompanying text box says “Cottony-cushion scale: Damages citrus by sucking plant juices as they feed. Can produce profuse amounts of honeydew which attracts ants and allows growth of sooty mold.”

The accompanying text says “Mealybugs: Like, cottony cushion scale, mealybugs damage citrus by sucking plant juices as they feed and can produce profuse amounts of honeydew which attracts ants and allows growth of sooty mold.” The second photo is a small, mottled brown Asian citrus psyllid insect feeding on a citrus twig at a 45 degree angle and blotchy yellow and green citrus leaves. The accompanying text says “Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP): Damages citrus leaves by feeding on new leaf growth, causing the leaves to twist or notch as they mature. ACP can infect citrus trees with the deadly disease huanglongbing (HLB), which can kill a citrus tree in as little as 5 years.”
