A blue fountain pen with an italic (calligraphy) nub. In blue italic handwriting : Today’s Write I let a student play with this Waterman Laureate … and the tip of the nib snapped off! It’s a bit of a bear to find a replacement nib, so I used a rotary tool and some P-1000 and P-1500 sandpaper to grind the broken nib into an italic. Works pretty well! The ink is some old international cartridges I had lying around.

Italic calligraphy of a quotation written by Ursula K. Le Guin, with one word ("hope") in Artificial Uncials. The text reads: "However ill-founded, however misguided, hope is the basic stratagem of mortality. We need it, and an art that fails to offer it fails us."

Some #italic #calligraphy practice this afternoon, with a small side helping of artificial #uncials. Once again I've chosen words written by Le Guin.

My italics are a bit rusty at the moment, but for an unplanned piece, I'm pretty pleased.
