During this period, around 1765, #JamesWatt also began his fruitful partnership with Dr John Roebuck (co-founder of Carron ironworks) at Kinneil House in Bo'ness on secret development and testing of prototypes of Watt's famous steam engine - leading later to their landmark patent of it in 1769

This culveting was needed as the Monkland Canal acted as a feeder for the Glasgow spur of the Forth and Clyde canal, and without it, it would stagnate and dry up.
