Same area is zoomed out
Incredible temperature spread between Scotts Valley and Redwood Estates, just 10 miles apart in the #SantaCruzMountains. Warm air is from compression off the ridgeline from northerly flow, while the same ridge blocks sun from the dark side of the range and cold air draining off #LomaPrieta. #CAwx

36 years ago, I was working in Downtown San Jose when the #LomaPrieta earthquake hit.
I watched skyscrapers wiggle like wet noodles, while the concrete outside the door waved like the ocean.
The longest 15 seconds of my life - I was sure it would be the end of mine.
Spoiler Alert: It wasn't.

Remember it like it was yesterday. Lived out in the inner Richmond and worked DT SF. People who couldn’t get home came to my house. My landline still worked, so the boss called and had me go in the next day to our condemned building and start the ‘phone tree’. #1989 #LomaPrieta.

Today is the anniversary of the 1989 earthquake in the Bay Area. I was a freshman at UC Santa Cruz about 7 miles from the epicenter. The town of Santa Cruz was basically destroyed by the fires that followed. #LomaPrieta #Earthquake #BayArea #SantaCruz #UCSC

While postmodern gov-tech has enabled a “version” of quake predictability tools in the past 20-30yrs, it’s still the case that there is no way to accurately Predict a major temblor. I’m an SF native who survived #LomaPrieta in ‘89, the #BigBear/#LA quake of ‘92 + the #DC/MD quake in 2011. I’m wary 😬

Apparently his first quake was #LomaPrieta in 1989 (magnitude: 6.9)—quite the way to crack one's seismic cherry. His second earthquake was one I was present for as well: #Northridge, 1994 (6.7)
