This fossil may look small - that's because it's from a salamander, but what a salamander! It's actually very large and surprisingly complete for the late Cretaceous of North America. From US Public lands administered by the BLM.

Three small and a larger glass jar with assorted microfossils and stones lined up with a lego minifig for scale on a table.

I am now going to start sorting through my finds from the past three fossil hunts at the beach. Not sure just exactly what I have, but there are some real goodies in here. Also, I will have to start learning the English names for some of the things (oh no!/s). #microfossil #fossils #beachfind

A larger jar on left filled with unsorted sand/gravel, in the middle a lego minifig used for scale, a smaller jar on right approximately 1/3 full of microfossils. The small jar is roughly twice the height of the minifig.

Spent almost an hour on the beach, looking for microfossils. Small jar is mixed fossils, larger jar is handfuls of unsorted sand/gravel for sorting at home. Lego minifig is my go-to unit for size scaling. #microfossil #fossilhunting #legominifig

Subsurface Microbial Colonization at Mineral-Filled Veins in 2-Billion-Year-Old Mafic Rock from the Bushveld Igneous Complex, South Africa - Astrobiology Recent advances in subsurface microbiology have demonstrated the habitability of multi-million-year-old igneous rocks, despite the scarce energy supply from rock-water interactions.
