And that ratings on MDL have actually edged out Nirvana in Fire

I would call it more of a tie

Very reminiscent of pulling off what they did in #Minglan but in a much shorter episode length

Mmm hmmmm....

Even if it’s not from #Minglan, there is a thematic phrase that I have absolutely heard in another drama OST

Also, I could swear that I'm hearing lots of #TheStoryOfMinglan #Minglan incidental music & some themes sound similar to #Minglan

Yes, sometimes it is finding new actors I like and then I’ll follow their next drama. The characters were different but I can’t say the story was original. I had just finished #minglan before this and there were too many similarities. Although Yining went through more than Minglan.

Ah you're of the young & heartless crew lol. I'm a hopeless wuss at this age & stage. Sometimes I have to stop watching a series e.g. even #MInglan (!), until I gain some distance & won't be utterly devastated by my favourite characters suffering.

I don’t actually know if Feng Shaofeng’s voice is dubbed with another voice actor, or if it his own

It’s true, I don’t remember him being compelling in this role, especially as he plays a character who is constrained (unlike in #Minglan) - but I think he was solid

I've rewatched #TheSwordandtheBrocade a few times. Wonderful writing and acting. Reminiscent of #Minglan for in depth treatment of the households of men with multiple wives i.e. first wife and concubines, and how women try to make decent lives out of that nightmare.

#minglan 73 eps, 45 minutes per episode #zhaoliying as Ming Lan and #fengshaofeng as Gu Tingye.

Excellent 4.8 stars, it was a little too long and compared to #yanxi it was slower.

I appreciated all the historical references and details in this cdrama. The inter-family conflicts were done well.

Ok, I’m not quite finished with the cdrama #minglan but already guessing how it’s going to end.

I’m not sure if the drama was getting too long and the writers had to come up with a war to resolve Gu’s crime.

I’m disappointed that the king didn’t trust the man who saved him. And…

Episode 69 #minglan the bunch of evil doers are so hard core! My blood is boiling listening to their bat shit stories.

Right? #Minglan is definitely one of those dramas that involves shouting at the villains & asking the leads to look out for danger!

It may help to know that there are some things going on in the background that only get explained later on…

#minglan there are too many characters I hate and they give me the twitch when they come on screen. Either proves their good acting or writing or I can’t deal with it because I see this in real life too. Episode 53

Sheesh, I hope there is a happy ending in this drama.

I’ve been watching #minglan and on episode 30. The family dynamic is just as bad as in the royal palace. These women are so petty and conniving. Maybe it’s the most free to be born into a farmer’s family.

I’m looking forward to Ming Lan taking her revenge.

It seemed like a whole lot of nonstop pain, which was not exactly the way #Minglan went......

I only mean that just as one can immerse oneself in the seamless, naturalistic historical experience of #Minglan, so one can feel the same with this drama - there is tremendous attention to detail, & the actors are very naturalistic in their portrayal

Just to say, by likening it to #Minglan I’m not saying that people who like that drama will like this one - #Minglan is more about domestic family drama, & has more romance (as well as female representation), whereas this one is more about dynastic politics, societal change, & has less romance

Oh. I took a long time to get to #Minglan but it is a classic beauty. 🌟 Ok, you've convinced me. I'll have a look after I've finished current two plus #UndercoverMissHong. How I get anything done is a miracle. Must get off here ...

I’m watching & enjoying both of those too - but #SwordsIntoPlowshares is the most immersive of the three

Even though it’s a more political story, it’s got a #Minglan like quality - in that the action takes place seamlessly & naturally as a flow of human events

It has light touches too 🙂

You’ve seen most of my drama recommendations (!), but I can’t remember if you’ve tried #TheLegendofShenLi?

2 others I always promote (aside from #Minglan) are #StoryofYanxiPalace & #EmpressesinthePalace - but they require a fair amount of time (unless you binge-watch like @dramaddict.bsky.social 😅)

I can’t remember if you mentioned trying #LegendoftheMagnate, but that drama - probably more than #Minglan - touches on the transition between the traditional order & the modern technological & industrial order (through its focus on trade, tea, weapons & new machinery for weaving cloth, etc)

True story: when I first tried watching #Minglan I was new to cdramas, so I wasn’t prepared for it’s leisurely pace of storytelling (at the start especially)

So when I tried it again I skipped forward to episode 19 & watched it from there 😅

I was so hooked, that I went back & started it again!

this is a struggle, but I think my top 5 historical cdramas are:

I rated #PrisonerOfBeauty higher than A Dream of Splendor, but tbh I think ADoS has more of my heart… plus I saw one of the sets in Hengdian!!! 😝
