A medium large (small chicken?) mostly grey bird with yellow cap like stripe broken up by black stripe then narrower yellow stripe and finally a black chin/partial neck stripe. It is holding its wings like one might carry an object to hand off to someone in front of it

That stripe connects with another black stripe below the yellow stripe just below the eye that includes the chin and upper neck. It has its beak wide open like it is yelling to our right. Standing in 2 1/2 inches of clear water.

The top half of the beak was probably initially cracked and then the piece broke off. Probably happens more often in #NightHerons and other such prey-stabbing species than bird photographers realise.
