A new plant gall for me among the fallen leaves in my garden: the Poplar Spiral Gall (Pemphigas spyrothecae) caused by an aphid on Poplar trees. @galling.bsky.social #plantgalls

Creeping Thistle (Cirsium arvense) with a distinctive gall. Seen on a sunny evening walk with my wife.

Probably due to this beautiful little lady, the aptly named Thistle Gall Fly (Urophora cardui). #Fly photo from a couple of years ago.

Not strictly botanical, but I think these are oak artichoke galls, caused by the little wasp Andricus foecundatrix? on Pedunculate Oak, Quercus robur. I've never seen them before but found them several times here in #CoSligo this summer. #PlantGalls @bsbibotany.bsky.social @bitheolaidhe.bsky.social

Some more galls on one of our Oaks: silk button spangle gall (induced by the asexual generation of the Neuroterus numismalis gall wasp) together with the artichoke or hop gall (induced by the asexual generation of the gall wasp Andricus foecundatrix).

I've been looking for the distinctive gall on Red Valerian caused by the Psyllid Trioza centranthi for years, so pleased to finally find it in my garden.

A successful workshop delivered to members of the Brighton University Ecological Society last week! Titled ‘Introduction to the Weird and Wonderful World of Plant Galls’, many attendees left really interested in this often overlooked aspect of #ecology!

Thanks for the fantastic response to my first post of Devil's fingers. Here's one of my recent pen and ink illustrations. Another fascination of mine, galls, especially those found on Quercus species
