A small Japanese Maple sapling, just opening yellow-gold spring leaves with a pinkish tinge, by a concrete landing in a sloped yard. We planted my cat Tarzan The Maine Coon under this sapling after he crossed the rainbow bridge, in December, more than 4 feet down. Planting trees in winter is great for them. It helps establish root systems since they have no leaves to send energy to. This is a slow growing maple which will likely only grow to about 15-20 feet high. The tree sprouts from two slender trunks, joined at the base. Each gold leaf is quite small, probably no bigger than a coin. The sapling itself is only about 2.5 feet high. To grow it from seed took roughly 4 years. I harvested the seed from another Japanese Maple on the other corner of my tiny yard.
My cat Tarzan The Maine Coon, from about last summer. He’s lounging on red blankets, in dim red light, in my orange room. He’s looking to camera and only the cat’s face and shoulders show, as if in a portrait pose. Tarzan was a great and white mega floof tuxedo cat, with faint tabby stripes in his long fur, a white ruff, blaze, belly, and socks, a pink nose, and golden eyes. He was a gentle giant of a cat, reaching 25 pounds at his peak. He is loved and he is missed. I’m grateful for the new life he gives my garden, which brings joy of a different kind. Our beloved pets never stay as long as we wish. The love is forever. Tarzan was the greatest.

I do have green shamrocks too. They are blooming fiercely! The purple shamrocks are putting out delicate pink flowers too, just a few.

Primrose blooming fiercely in a round shallow pot. The flowers are vibrant, vivid shades of red, fuchsia, and scarlet, with bright yellow centers. They’re so bright they look AI, but this is an unfiltered pic just on my porch steps. Some slender green hyacinth stalks are just starting between them. The pot has narcissus too but it’s being shy yet. Primrose are almost always the first to bloom, in late winter. These little baddies have been blooming for a month already.
Zoomed out to show more potted plants on my concrete porch steps. Below the primrose is a mini rose bush, filling in with green foliage. It likely won’t bloom until at least May. A faux marble lion statue is on the next step, with a small yellow pot and a sapling start. Below them is a strawberry pot, but I don’t think it made it through winter. The primrose bowl is so vivid comparatively. My porch is painted yellow, and the porch rails are rustic wood.
