Caleri stepped down from the doorway at last, her expression sharpening into true alarm. "Get him inside. Now." Hodari didn't argue. He scooped Djamin into his arms as if he weighed nothing, carrying him through the doorway and laying him on the bed. His hands hovered, unsure where to touch, as though afraid even that might hurt him. "Talk to me," Hodari said roughly, voice shaking despite his effort to sound steady. "Tell me what's happenin'." Djamin's back arched, a cry tearing free as another invisible wave hit him. His ring flashed with a cold metallic glint, almost painfully bright. "They're pulling," he gasped. "Something's pulling me." Subira pressed her palm over his sternum, closing her eyes. Pink flow energy spread from her hand, gentle but steady — not to overpower, but to shield.
