A rabbit (possibly a California brush rabbit) in the shade of a cattle gate that marks a trailhead in the park.
A south facing slope in a regional park located in the Diablo range of California. The dense chaparral is home and protection for local wildlife.
During a morning hike today I got really close to this little rabbit enjoying some shade. They live in the dense chaparral which helps protect them from the hawks, harriers and golden eagles that hunt in the area.
