Filiger didn't care about the champagne. He lived like a hermit. Saint Cecilia. Small, gold. No human flesh. Just pure, ancient geometry like Byzantine icons. A quiet rebel, his work still glowed.

A drawing of a woman from about the waist up, contained in a pale colored circle of paper. She has a halo and flowers in her hair. Her hands are in front of her; the left hand is slightly above the right, and holds a martyr's palm. The description in the book informs the reader that it is a drawing of, “Thomas Ball’s wife Ellen Louisa Wild in the guise of Saint Cecilia, in three-quarter view from the waist up; she holds the palm of martyrdom and wears a floral wreath, a simple halo around her head and a view of a landscape with a church and belltower behind her. In her usual style, Fanny [Francesca Alexander, the artist] only outlined the body but focused attention on her sitter’s head with precisely rendered eyelashes, hair and wreath.”The circular artwork is mounted on a darker brown vertical rectangle of paper, on which appears two lines of handwritten text. The top line is "Santa Cecilia Martire"; the text of the 2nd line is not entirely legible.

A manuscript illumination of a haloed female figure within an initial letter V. She wears a sea-green gown and a rust-colored cloak. Her left elbow is bent so that her forearm is in front of her; in her left hand she holds a blue book. Her right elbow is bent so that her forearm is held upward, parallel to her body; in her right hand she holds a martyr's palm. The letter V, decorated with leaves, is contained within a square with a background of gold paint.

Music and song in the liturgical setting are a form of prayer, which draw us into the beauty that lifts us up to God and unites our hearts in praise. May #SaintCecilia, patroness of music and musicians, whose memorial we celebrate today, sustain the mission of choirs and choral groups.

Today, on this Memorial of Saint Cecilia, we honor the virgin martyr whose life sang with love for Christ. Her courage and purity show the beauty of a heart ready for God. May her intercession guide us in faith. #jesus #jesuschrist #catholicchurch #catholic #stcecilia #saintcecilia

“Saint Cecilia” (circa 1626). By Simon Vouet, from the collection of the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, Texas, U.S.A. (public domain; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vouet,_Simon_-_Saint_Cecilia_-_c._1626.jpg).
For some Christian churches, today, 22 November 2025 is the feast day of #SaintCecilia, the patron saint of musicians. The term “pull out all the stops” alludes to the pulling out of all the stops of a pipe organ, thus causing it to play as loud as possible.
Still at St. Cecilia in Trastevere: Below the sculpture of Cecilia (8/11/25 post) lie two Roman era houses (maybe Cecilia's) and this 1900 chapel next to a 9th-c. crypt with remains of Cecilia and others (martyrs and popes.) #photography #travel #tourism #rome #trastevere #saintcecilia #architecture

November 22nd is the feast day of #SaintCecilia, patron saint of #music and #musicians. Born to a noble Roman family in 2nd century AD, she sang to God as she died a martyr’s death. Today, Saint Cecilia is often commemorated in paintings & stained glass windows as sitting at (or carrying) an organ.
I do think he's great, but it's not something I usually do twice in one day...or even in one month.
It's mainly a function of his writing two (?) fabulous songs that were at list partally inspired by #SaintCecilia 😃
Enjoy my feast day!
#SaintCecilia, also spelled #Cecelia, was a #Roman Christian virgin #martyr, who is venerated in Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and some Lutheran churches, such as the Church of Sweden
Born: 180 AD, #Rome, Italy
Died: November 22, 230 AD (age 50 years), #Sicily, #Italy

Painting showing St. Cecilia gazing toward heaven while holding her portative organ upside down.
It's the feast day of #SaintCecilia, the patron saint of music. But she's holding her organetto upside down! I play one of those, and I can tell you, if those soft lead pipes splat on the ground, the instrument is never going to sound the same. Look, they're already slipping out...
A chalk-on-paper depiction of a majestic Cecilia in a long gown, the patron saint of music, playing the organ. The saint is attended by two angels who take an active music-making role. The angel on the left sings along attentively and the winged boy on the right operates the bellows.

Today, we honor Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music, musicians, and singers. May her life remind us that faith, courage, and devotion transform even trials into a hymn of praise. Let your life be a melody of love for Christ, shining brightly for the world to see. #jesus #catholic #saintcecilia
