Close-up photograph of a Silver Gull with its beak wide open, showing the bright orange-red interior of its mouth. The bird's white head and plumage contrast with its distinctive orange-red bill and eye-ring. The eye shows a dark pupil surrounded by a thin orange ring. Background is softly blurred with blue and green tones. The gull appears to be calling or vocalizing.

A closeup shot of a silver gull. The bird is reaching in from off frame to grab a small chip that is sitting on the sand of a beach. The birds body language suggests it is ready to take flight at a moments notice

Snatch!

A silver gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) ducks in to grab a chip that is a bit to close to the photographer for the birds comfort.

A silver gull is standing on an expanse of green grass, facing towards the camera. In front of it, and suspended in mid fall, is a large piece of toasted fruit bread, giving the impression that it's floating. The gulls beak is open, with crumbs falling from it.

Definitely got a kick out of watching some Silver Gulls chase each other for a slice of fruit toast, but I think this shot of the gull showing off its telekinesis powers is my favourite! #birds #ausbirds #seagull #silvergull

Silver Gulls (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) are Australia's most common gull. You've probably met one if you’ve ever been near the coast, a picnic, or a fish & chips shop!

Caught this sharp-looking Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) at Lake Wendouree, Ballarat today. With their bright red beaks and striking white eyes, they thrive across Australia’s coasts, lakes, and even urban areas.

Two Australian Silver Gulls fly over the ocean.
This smallest of the resident Australian gulls (Larus novaehollandiae) is commonly seen around coastal shorelines; also found in New Zealand and New Caledonia. They flock in high numbers around fishing boats leaving or returning to harbour, providing rhythm and movement to any coastal environment. (Please don’t feed them chips.)

In adult birds the plumage is grey above, with a white head, neck and underparts; younger birds have varying amounts of brown mottling on the back and wings. Adults also differ from the young in having conspicuous red-orange legs, bill and eye-ring; these are black to brown in younger birds. Body length up to 40 cm. Image credit: sleepylog

Your time has come
