Another view of the male Wheatear showing well at Shingle Street this morning 14.04.2026. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
An excellent morning around Shingle Street produced some wonderful views of Wheatear, Black Redstart and singing Corn Bunting. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
Confiding Blackcap at SWT Lackford Lakes today. Also Nightingales, Common Whitethroats, Chiffchaffs all showed well. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
My first visit of the year to the Kings Forest and pleased to see that Tree Pipits, Willow Warblers, Linnets, Stonechats, Skylarks have all returned to their territories whilst a croaking Raven circled overhead. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
Ring Ouzel at Cavenham Heath.
Ring Ouzel at Cavenham Heath.
Ring Ouzel at Cavenham Heath.
Ring Ouzel at Cavenham Heath.
Happily still on site when the Ring Ouzel was refound. Adult female, by my reckoning. Has been faithful to a small area all p.m.

Tried my Emperor lure and drew in a fair few, but just impossible to photograph. Even if you’ve netted one. 😩 #teammoth
A Small Copper struck me as early.
Dentist this morning so an opportunity to stroll on Friar’s Meadow between appointments. At least 3 singing Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff and several loud Wrens, plus a spectacular flyover from 2 Mute Swans which always makes me stop and stare. #suffolkbirds
From Lackford Lakes this afternoon! Pity about the wind noise.

Better late than never. Usually a March arrival, but has been February and April before.
A #76 Oystercatcher had a fly past this afternoon.
I’ve heard distant possibles for a couple of days, but no doubting this one.
#SuffolkBirds
Singing Nightingale.
Frustrating time on Cavenham Heath, a handful of Moths that proved too stealthy for me, including 2 Emperors to lure.
Birds much of a muchness.
Later @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social Lackford, my earliest Nightingale by 2 days, Swallow over. 4 LRP’s and 3 Avocet on the Slough. #SuffolkBirds
Nice to get a few pictures this morning at Landguard including an early Whitethroat ringed today. #Suffolkbirds # Birds #Birding
Walk across to Cornard Mere where Chiffchaffs abound, Blackcap singing and 3 Cettis exploding. Astonishingly a Marsh Harrier hunting over the Mere. When we first saw these in Norfolk there were only a handful of birds, now I’ve seen one less than a mile away #suffolkbirds
Lovely morning around Westleton Heath and Minsmere scrape this morning with Geoff & Kim. Highlights inc. Stone Curlews, Woodlarks, Dartford Warblers, Wheatear, Bar-Tailed Godwit, Sandwich Terns, lots of Blackcaps. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
A very elusive and distant Wheatear.
Well, there were migrants at Cavenham, distant, invisible and fleeting.
Wheatear at half a mile, unseen singing Willow Warbler and 2 fly-through Sand Martins.
At least it’s a start.

2CY male Peregrine on the local church.
I’ve not been seeing a lot of the local Peregrines lately. A bit of interaction from a/the pair a couple of weeks ago, but just one sighting since…
…until this evening. So I thought I would go and get a picture.
A bit of a surprise to see it is a new 2CY male. #SuffolkBirds
Mediterranean Gulls, Sandwich Tern, Knot & Ringed Plover were just some of the selection around the scrape at @rspbminsmere.bsky.social today. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirds
Breeding-plumaged Great White Egret.
@suffolkwildlife.bsky.social Lackford Lakes: 4 Avocet on the Slough, along with this spiffy breeding-plumaged Great White Egret.

Pair of Garganey still showing well on Aldeburgh Town Marsh this morning. Also remaining Whooper Swan and White Wagtail seen. #UKBirding #SuffolkBirds
My first Wheatear of the year at RSPB Hollesley Marsh this morning. Little Ringed Plover also present on the scrape. #SuffolkBirds #UKBirding
Stone Curlew.
Finally caught up with Stone Curlew locally today. Five birds seen, including this (sitting) erythristic individual. #SuffolkBirds
A trip to @rspbminsmere.bsky.social today. Always lovely. Stonechat, Kittiwakes, Med Gull, Whooper Swan and Bearded Tit all FFY, splendid Marsh Harriers and much else besides. #suffolkbirds
Distant Goshawk in the murk
Distant pair of displaying Ravens in the murk.
Distant singing Woodlark in the murk.
A singing Mistle Thrush y’day, was noteworthy, 3 chasing each other around the garden today.
Later @rspb.bsky.social Lakenheath a calling Curlew was NFY.
Later still, no sign of the local Stone Curlew again, but 1, maybe 2 prs of Goshawk, a pr Ravens and singing Woodlarks were good.

Peregrine on its favoured spot. Sitting on a Gargoyle’s head.
The local Pigeons are not keen on settling on the Church when one of the Peregrines is up there.
A couple of old friends popped up today. The Water Rail in the millstream, that has been MIA for over a month, and one of the Peregrines on the church, that I’ve not seen for a week or two. It was keeping the local Feral Pigeons on their toes.

Purple Sandpipers at Ness Point Lowestoft. These birds are so interesting to watch, scampering over the rocks with waves crashing around them. Won't be long before they migrate north to their breeding grounds. #Birds #SuffolkBirds
It was good to see the Hume's Warbler at Lowestoft on 14/2/26. It gave brief views in the morning, and then wasn’t seen for a few hours: I relocated it early afternoon, in the north-east corner of Sparrow's Nest Gardens, where it showed very well.

A trip to East Suffolk today, 5 Purple Sandpipers, 1 in photo at Ness Point Lowestoft, didn't see Shore Larks or Snow Buntings at Pakefield, Got good if brief views of the Humes Warbler at Denes Oval lowestoft. #Birds #SuffolkBirds
Bonus Firecrest from the Denes Oval in Lowestoft this morning. Saw the Hume's Warbler briefly but it wasn't keen to pose.
