I’ve been moving spare turf to build up our gateway where the biggest vehicles have taken off the corner #upperteesdale #newbiggin #tobythegardener

A first time find for me in Upper Teesdale. These are Stone Bramble (Rubus saxatilis) berries, Teesdale, County Durham, UK

Nothing more delicate, nothing more pink, nothing more exquisite than Bird's Eye primrose. Here in #Durham #UpperTeesdale @wildflowerhour.bsky.social

There were 25 males and 1 female #BlackGrouse at the well-know #UpperTeesdale lek visible from the roadside yesterday morning.
(Just wish I had some better photography kit.)

In the grasslands beside the River Tees at Low Force, handsome Northern Marsh Orchids are the stars among a cast of Lady's Mantle, Wood Cranesbill, and, in late May, not yet in flower, Meadowsweet and Great Burnet. #Wildflowerhour #UpperTeesdale #LowForceWaterfall #Durham 3/5

At the end of May, as the peaty waters of the River Tees crashed over Low Force waterfall, a pair of Common Sandpipers acted very much as if they had young hidden away there, so we moved on quickly. #BirdsSeenIn2024

As I swam in the tarns below Cronkley Scar, Lapwings came to the shore to drink and wash, while Wheatears flitted between grass and rocks, Wigeons whistled overhead and a Greylag gosling lay "sleeping". #UpperTeesdale #DurhamDales #BirdsSeenIn2024 9/10

Some of the Lesser Marshwort (Helosciadium inundatum) in the eastern tarn under Cronkley Scar was coated in this jelly like substance. Could it be ciliates in the order Sessilida? Perhaps Ophrydium or Vorticella? #upperTeesdale #Durham #durhamdales

After climb over Cronkley Fell, was divine to skinny dip in the extraordinarily warm (20°C), silky water of the tarn at 450m. Could have stayed in indefinitely.

Travelled over to Upper Teesdale to show our winter warming experiment sites. Nice hike up to Cronkley fell and then the best fish and chips in Middleton in Teesdale
