先日、ビニール袋と土嚢袋が欲しくてホムセンに寄ったとき、見切り棚でついつい買ってしまった。
花壇エリアに、常に背の高い花、できれば宿根草を求めているんだけど、なかなか合うやつに出会わず…去年はジギタリス、今年はデルフィニウムを植えたので、こういう感じでローテするしかないかなと思ってたんだけど、バーバスカムはワンチャンあると思わん？
ただ、今年はもうデルフィニウムが植わってるので、この苗を夏以降定植するまで維持しとかないとだが…（計画性なし）

#Wildflower #Verbascum #BlueSkyMonday Today I chose a Common Mullein silhouetted against a brilliant blue sky. Taken in January 2021, it made me think of a Saguaro cactus.
The photograph presents a macro view of a vibrant yellow flower in bloom. Its petals form an open, radiant cup, while fine details of the central stamens dusted with pollen are clearly visible. Surrounding the main bloom, several unopened buds—fuzzy and silvery-green—stand in contrast with the smooth, golden petals. The background is a soft blur of more yellow blossoms, intensifying the sense of abundance and warmth. A watermark, “@ahaktekin,” is visible in the lower left corner. The flower belongs to the Verbascum genus, commonly known as mullein, in the figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). These biennial or perennial plants are recognized by their tall spikes covered in five-petaled yellow blossoms. The dense woolly hairs on the buds and leaves reduce water loss and protect against herbivores, allowing them to thrive in dry, sunny habitats. Their pollen-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, playing an important role in sustaining insect biodiversity. Historically, mullein has also been valued in traditional herbal remedies for its leaves and flowers.

Heb geluk met wandelen, net bij iemand op de oprit deze zien staan. Volgens mij is dit de toorts, moet alleen nog gaan bloeien.
Bij #JuliBloeiers staat op #dag3 de #toorts ofwel #verbascum centraal. Er komen verschillende wilde soorten toorts/verbascum voor in Nederland. Ik kon in mijn archief alleen zwarte toorts (verbascum nigrum) en koningskaars (verbascum thapsus) vinden, beide gefotografeerd in het NHD.

Paeonia x suffruticosa 'Shima-Nishiki'. A many-petalled tree peony flower with brilliant magenta-red petals and a cluster of golden stamens. A bit of blurry green in the BG.
Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris 'Easter' (Keith Keppel 1995)/ A close=up on the fall and beard. The Flags are white with some lilac and yellow washing, the falls are white with yellow speckling merging into a yellow margin, and the beard is white with saffron tips. More in the BG, blurry.
Thalictrum aquilegifolium 'Nimbus White'. On a dark blurry leafy green BG, little bursts of white threads, which I think are actually stamens (I'm not sure).
Verbascum x phoenicum, purple mullein. A shot section of the lfower spike, showing several open flowers. Each has five fused petals, light violet with orange freckles toward the center, and a "bee" of white fuzz int he center, protecting the repriductive parts. Blurry BG.
