Sandy path through coastal heathland with a red belly black snake visible on the right hand side of the path.
Holiday snake count up to a nice round 5 💚
Red belly at boat harbour in Cronulla. Old mate was deeply unconcerned and needed a little encouragement to move along :)

The incredible, snuggleable softness that is the forelegs, head, thorax and wings of a male Helena gum moth. The male's legs are covered in russet rings of fur, giving the impression of voluminous striped trousers as they grip the back of my hand. He appears to be hiding his face in their fluff, presenting the world with a view of his magnificent white monobrow and feathery antenna (the antenna shape indicate a male moth, feathery to detect female pheromones). The thorax is downy with russet hairs, fading to pale pink and light brown on the wings. The hindwings in the background each have a spectacular eyespot, bright orange, ringed with black and a white highlight.
A day late to #throwbackThursday so enjoy a little end of the week cuteness from this incredibly cuddly Helena gum moth, Austrocaligula helena.

Photo taken on Wandergarup, Bibbulmun Noongar Country
This female red-tailed black-cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii naso), is cheekily watching me from beneath her raised crest, her pale grey beak tucked into her fluffed-up neck feathers. Female red-tail black-cockatoos are the same rich black colour as the males, but have a delicate scatter of yellow dots across their face and shoulders, which always remind me of stars on a clear night. This bird photo features the head and shoulders of the bird in profile, facing to the right, framed by the branches of a married tree with blurred foliage in the background.
Ok, a little #throwbackThursday to this gorgeous lady, a red-tailed black-cockatoo or 'karak' in local Noongar language.
The Whadjuk Noongar people are traditional custodians of the lands on which I am privileged to live and work.

Two red-necked stints walk towards the camera (a third bird exits from the top left corner) with determined looks in their eyes, on the hunt for small crustaceans in the grey rippling surface of a salt lake. From the front they are mostly white, with delicate grey speckles on their heads and backs. Their dark beaks and eyes are focused ahead. Despite being photographed in the Australian summer sunshine, these birds are in their winter plumage!
Happy New Year everyone!
Hope you are all safe and happy 💕
Had a bit of a break from the socials for the last two weeks but now coming at 2025 with the determination and focus of these red-necked stints!
