Over the past few years, I've watched our local group of Glossy Black Cockatoos grow from 3 to 6. It's a lovely experience being in the presence of these large, gentle parrots sydneybirder.com/2026/03/20/l... #WildAustralia #Birds #BirdWatching #Parrots

Don't mess with our cockatoos! Even if you're a fierce predator. sydneybirder.com/2026/01/29/c... #BirdWatching #birds #WildAustralia
From Linnaeus to Lizard 😄 Saw this little guy running around the ecalyptus forest but haven't had a chance yet to check the ID. #WildAustralia #lizards #reptiles
Saw lots of these in Oz... Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) aka Spiny Anteater. That nose is not flexible. Rigid right to the end which helps digging into the soil for ants and grubs. One of only five mammals that lays eggs. #WildAustralia #echidnas
I like the name of this Aussie plant... Pigface (Carpobrotus sp.) 🐷 😀 Lots of it on the coastal heathlands north of Adelaide. #WildAustralia #pigface #plants #botany
A cool wasp I saw on my Australia trip. No idea which species and I'm too lazy to post it to iNaturalist 😄 #MacroMonday #WildAustralia #AustralianBugs #wasps #insects #bugs
More #MacroMonday madness. One way to get clicks on your social media ... a click beetle from Mount Field National Park in Tasmania. 😂 Pretty sure this is Monocrepidius genus, but no idea of the species. My beetle ID skills are 🤮 🤪 #WildAustralia #WildTasmania #beetles #SheLovesYouYeahYeahYeah
Just another #MacroMonday 😀 Australia has some big-ass ants like this Inch Ant dragging a dead spider. They are supposed to be venomous too, but I didn't want to test it and find out. 😬 There are a few species of inch or bull ants. I think this one is Myrmecia forficata. #WildAustralia #BigBadAnts
Just waiting for this Bennet's Wallaby (Notamacropus rufogriseus) to finish trashing my terrace at the Bruny Island Hotel. I guess it didn't appreciate me calling it a red-neck 😂 Red-necked Wallaby is their alternate common name. #WildTasmania #WildAustralia #wallabies #macropods
Close-up of feeding time at the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo near Taranna. No... not Toronto (for you Ontario natives. 😂 )! When these little bad boys eat, they eat everything! Flesh, skin, fur, bones. Not a scrap left. 😳

Australian Fur Seals (Arctocephalus pusillus) #WildTasmania #WildAustralia #seals #pinnipeds
One more reptile from Tasmania.. a Mountain Dragon (Rankinia diemensis). The name sounds impressive but they are actually pretty small. 😀 #WildAustralia #WildTasmania #dragons #lizards #reptiles
Unseasonably cool weather meant no #snakes on my Australia trip, except for a close encounter with this big boy... a Tiger Snake (Notechis scutatus) at the Inala Nature Reserve in Tasmania. Fifth most venomous snake in the world. #reptiles #WildTasmania #WildAustralia
Another orchid from Tasmania, but I forget the species. Fortunately don't have to ID it to enjoy it. 😄 #orchids #wildflowers #wildflowerpower #WildTasmania #WildAustralia
Chasing #birds all over Tasmania, we still had time to check out some #wildflowers Here is a Duck Orchid (Caleana major) #WildTasmnia #WildAustralia #wildflowerpower #orchids
A moment of nature therapy in the Tasmanian rainforest. #WildTasmania #WildAustralia
I used to think Eucalyptus was a single species of tree. I now know that the genus includes over 700 species, from small, spindly shrubs to giants like this one... the Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans). It's the tallest flowering plant in the world. #WildTasmania #WildAustralia #Eucalypts #bigtrees
Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea). Not native to Australia but there was quite a few growing in Dandenong Ranges National Park. Toxic to humans... it will get your heart racing faster than a match on Tinder 😄 #WildAustralia #foxglove #wildflowers #WildflowerPower
Pademelon.. a small, forest-dwelling kangaroo. #WildAustralia #WildTasmania #kangaroos #marsupials #macropods
One more image of the #flyingfoxes These four were having some sort of discussion 😂 Sound on! #WildAustralia #megabats #bats
The Gray-headed Flying Fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) is the largest bat in Australia. Impressive sight when they all take flight at once... like they did when a Harley roared down the street. I guess the noise and vibration was too much for them. #WildAustralia #flyingfoxes #megabats #bats
Spectacular sight to see all the Gray-headed Flying Foxes (Pteropus poliocephalus) at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens. Thousands hanging from the trees. Here is one having a stretch. #WildAustralia #flyingfoxes #bats #megabats
Tired of being the center of attention, the Platypus decided to head for its burrow. 😀 #WildAustralia #WildTasmania #platypus #platypi #mammals
My lifer Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) today... at the Hobart rivulet. There are only 5 egg-laying mammals on the planet. 4 of them are echidnas, and the other is this strange creature. #WildTasmania #WildAustralia #mammals #platypuses #platypi
