Grassland fungi for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #wildfungihour - Octopus Stinkhorn a.k.a. Devil's Fingers (Clathrus archeri) in the New Forest 25.10.25. Has an affnity for areas of short grass where gorse has been burnt/mulched. Decent numbers this year! #mushroommonday
A very special species from the Sefton coast. Normally it takes quite a bit of checking Winter Stalkballs to find one but this was the first and only Stalkball I noticed yesterday!
Scaly Stalkball (Tulostoma melanocyclum).

Waxcap 13 - Glistening Waxcap (Gloioxanthomyces vitellinus). Our smallest waxcap. Starting a deep beautiful yellow and aging to pure white. The deeply decurrent gills have a thin slime layer along their edge. Usually found in acidic places. #wildfungihour
Lovely pure yellow Glistening Waxcap fungus nestled in blades of grass. The cap is about 1cm across.
Enjoying seeing so many grassland and other fungi. Here is a Glistening Waxcap seen in heathland pastures in Derbyshire #wildfungihour #wildflowerhour
Scarlet Waxcaps (Hygrocybe coccinea) in field behind the house and Golden Waxcaps (Hygrocybe chloroprana) on the lawn

The tip of Dog Stinkhorn fungi, covered in the gleba (slime) which contains the spores
A Dog Stinkhorn fungi at Garston Wood. With the remains of the Volva (eggsack) at the base, it's long thin stalk, with a pitted sponge-like appearance, ending in an orangy tip, covered in dark olive coloured slime - the gleba, which contains the spores.
My #fungi highlight from Garston Wood today was my first Dog Stinkhorn. What a brilliantly bizarre fungi!
Erupting from an eggsack (volva), the long narrow stalk thrusts up presenting an orange tip. This is covered in dark smelly slime (gleba) containing the spores.
