Lashunta Word of the Seek Shoameal (/ʃɔ.a:me:ɔl./; animal): treepath; the layer of interconnecting, weight-supporting boughs developed by Castrovellian megadendra. Etymology: ~shoam~ (common): path + ~eal~ (animal): tree; megadendron The ~Shoameal~ form an important biome within Castrovel’s rainforests. The giant megadendra trees have evolved to keep their lower boughs viable even under minimal sunlight. As they interweave with other trees’ boughs, they become a support network, wherein as the trees sway under windstorms, they help support each others’ weight. Furthermore, much animal life - apes, monkeys, squox, treetoads, birds, fade-deer, and Shotalashu - prefer to live at this level, and thus avoid the low-metabolism bottom-crawlers who haunt the Darkfloor below. Epiphytic vegetation, such as beardmoss, berrybrambles, glowroses, and mushrooms and lichens beyond count, also grow at this level without ever touching dirt. The Lashunta themselves prefer to travel cross-country at this level. Not only are the treepath boughs as wide as a wagon track, but their tame Shotalashu steeds are innate arboreal travelers. Climbing is an almost universal skill among rural Lashunta, and they practice a parkour-like sport called ~shoanmelliza~ - nimbleclimb (“Lashunta Ninja Warrior!”). Additionally, they often prefer to build tree houses and live at this level.
