Years ago a couple of our #dunnarts got #trichobezoars (hairballs) so preventative protocols were developed. 2000+ animals later, we haven't seen any more hairballs, so I helped #veterinarians publish this result, highlighting our commitment to our animals' health and #welfare πŸ™

Fresh #research paper out today! Long-term impacts of #captivity on #skull #morphology and #endocranial volume in fat-tailed #dunnarts πŸ’€πŸ
Captive skulls = significantly shorter basal + upper molar lengths, broader zygomatic widths and longer palate and toothrow lengths, compared with wild dunnarts.

It often is for me too actually, but this particular arid ecosystem the animals are a bit more hardy! What species did you work on?

Dig in day was fine with a top of 31 degrees but we have a 39 coming up in a few days so fingers crossed it doesn't tick to 40 otherwise we'll need to close our traps (for the safety of trapped animals)

Nice size #easternbrownsnake skin in my tile grid today. Did you know you can sometimes identify a #snake to species based on its shed? EBs have 17 dorsal rows and a divided anal scale. Though I wouldn't suggest counting the anal scales on a live one πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ 🐍

That is devastating! :(

Specifically I'm trying to work out if they're more likely to cache larger prey compared to something mouse sized. It seems likely to me that if they can just gulp it down, that's what they'll do rather than cache, but it's just my thoughts rather than evidence based.

Where are our Australian #invasivespecies specialists at? Who works on #redfoxes and #feralcats? Got any references for evidence of #fox and #cat prey-caching behaviour for me? Are they likely to cache some items more than others?
Thank you! 🦊🐱
