π #Animalwelfare Award for my continued commitment to improving welfare for our #fattaileddunnarts. #Captivemanagement of animals is a privilege, and every animal life is valued and respected. My efforts are supported by my incredible manager Andrew Pask and Colossal Biosciences.

Years ago a couple of our #dunnarts got #trichobezoars (hairballs) so preventative protocols were developed. 2000+ animals later, we haven't seen any more hairballs, so I helped #veterinarians publish this result, highlighting our commitment to our animals' health and #welfare π
#mammalfashion post two - this time the outfits and accessories- absolutely on point! πΎπ¦π so many mammalogists shopping at #princesshighway and #dangerfield!
Fashion off the field! The final day bought a gaggle of gliders with three of our fabulous mammalogists wearing various iterations! #mammalfashion #ausmamsoc25 #dangerfield #princesshighway #greaterglider
Snorkelling dunnarts and toasty pookilas- great talks this morning from @drdunnart.bsky.social and Phoebe Burns on two of our smaller critters ππΎ #ausmamsoc25
Oh my goodness, was this at the botanic gardens? I am doing the bird walk Saturday and would love SO MUCH to see a noisy pitta!!!!

Recent #research we #published! In non-fancy terms, this represents the first step for developing #marsupial IVF; working out how to collect high-quality eggs from female fat-tailed #dunnarts β

Fresh #research paper out today! Long-term impacts of #captivity on #skull #morphology and #endocranial volume in fat-tailed #dunnarts ππ
Captive skulls = significantly shorter basal + upper molar lengths, broader zygomatic widths and longer palate and toothrow lengths, compared with wild dunnarts.
Less than a week to get your abstracts in for the 71st Annual Australian Mammal Society meeting! Get cracking - deadline Friday 2nd May!
It often is for me too actually, but this particular arid ecosystem the animals are a bit more hardy! What species did you work on?
Dig in day was fine with a top of 31 degrees but we have a 39 coming up in a few days so fingers crossed it doesn't tick to 40 otherwise we'll need to close our traps (for the safety of trapped animals)
Calperum Station #floodplains; "dig in" day is done!

Nice size #easternbrownsnake skin in my tile grid today. Did you know you can sometimes identify a #snake to species based on its shed? EBs have 17 dorsal rows and a divided anal scale. Though I wouldn't suggest counting the anal scales on a live one π€·ββοΈ π

Specifically I'm trying to work out if they're more likely to cache larger prey compared to something mouse sized. It seems likely to me that if they can just gulp it down, that's what they'll do rather than cache, but it's just my thoughts rather than evidence based.
Where are our Australian #invasivespecies specialists at? Who works on #redfoxes and #feralcats? Got any references for evidence of #fox and #cat prey-caching behaviour for me? Are they likely to cache some items more than others?
Thank you! π¦π±
