Image-top, a 3-line miniature poem, dated 2024, with author's name above, accompanied by image-below, a screen capture of a tv news story 11Jan2024, about an ill-fated lunar exploration journey, with a graphic showing the curtailed trajectory of the Peregrine Lunar Module, re-directed by mission control to burn up in Earth's atmosphere on re-entry. The trajectory describes an arabesque in space. The launch of the Vulcan Centaur spacecraft (not depicted in the graphic) was a success, as was the second-stage propulsive "trans-lunar injection" (TLI), but the Peregrine module failed its space maneuvers, under its own power, shortly after it began its planned 46-day journey to the moon. The poem is in referernce to the ashes--a set of four (4) samples of human remains--stowed on board, that never made it to their intended lunar graveyard. More context: While the ashes intended for the moon instead burned up on re-entry, another set of some four (4) samples of human remains of the OG Enterprise crew were apparently succesfully inserted into heliocentric orbit, to circle the sun for all eternity, as part of the same launch/same mission. In the screencap, img-bottom: Unrelated chyrons about other news-of-the-day display below the tv graphic illustrating the main story. And bottom-left, tv station identification.
Same launch, #instapoem inspired after-the-fact: When the event transformed into a speedy disintegration in Earth's upper atmosphere, the outcome provided a kind of second demise for the other guests on board

Photo taken from a high point on the Pompidou Centre in Paris. In the foreground is the “tube” that contains the escalator. In the background is the large paved public space, with trees and the giant ducts that are part of the building structure. Dotted throughout the space are people, but the perspective makes them look tiny.
An old photo I had set aside for #AlphabetChallenge #WeekJforJuxtaposition, because I thought it might fit 🤷🏻♀️, but I think it might also fit #PalacesAndGardens #AboveAndBelow. Centre Pompidou is certainly palatial in size, anyway.

Finely detailed gilt and black railing , with lots of feathery flourishes, rises up along the foreground. On the landing, painting hang on yellow walls. The railing moves up to the next floor. At the top of this photo, the ceiling is the next floor landing. It is a pale pink with intricate molding.
Another fancy staircase for #PalacesAndGardens #AboveAndBelow. This is in Hertford House (which houses the Wallace Collection), London
Looking up a through the middle of semicircular staircase. The wrought iron railing has a floral pattern. There is a skylight in the ceiling. A close look will reveal hands over the balustrade, taking pictures.
An alternate view of the staircase in the previous picture on this post, this time from above looking down. The staircase is a semicircular staircase, but the edge of the left side of the photo cuts off the straight side. Decorative wrought iron railing and wide stairs spiral down through multiple floors.

A photograph of the highly decorative vaulted ceiling of the Arab Room in Cardiff Castle which is located in the Herbert Tower. Designed in 1880 by William Burghes, the extreme height was achieved by knocking out the two floors above. In contrast to the sweeping height, the footprint of the room comfortably fits a round table with four chairs. The decorative patterns are inspired by French Orientalist interpretations of North African and Middle Eastern designs. The black, red, and gold designs are largely geometric with natural elements like flower silhouettes and occasional animal additions. The central design also includes eight birds in flight arranged within the petals of a flower. The flower sits within an eight pointed star. Jewel tone stained glass windows are on each side, however the detail is obscured by excessively bright sunlight. As with the rest of the castle, the gold used is real gold leaf and not just paint. The Atlas Obscura entry for The Arab Room suggests an estimated £8 million in gold is found in the room (last edited in 2012 so inflate accordingly). The wildly ornate vaulted ceiling of the Arab Room in Cardiff Castle.
It's a level of opulent design that I'd normally associate with a far grander scale of room. #AltText

As above, so below" is a foundational Hermetic maxim in Wicca, expressing that the spiritual/macrocosm (above) and physical/microcosm (below) are mirrored and connected. It implies that magical, intentional, or spiritual actions performed in one realm affect the other, emphasizing interconnectedness, personal responsibility, and balancing inner/outer worlds. Core Meanings in Wicca The Principle of Correspondence: The universe is interconnected across different planes (material, mental, spiritual). What happens in the divine or cosmic sphere is reflected in our earthly life. Microcosm and Macrocosm: Humans are viewed as a reflection of the universe. Studying the self helps understand the universe, and vice-versa. Magic and Intent: By creating a specific intention or working in the microcosm (a ritual space), a practitioner can affect change in the macrocosm (the world/reality). Inner and Outer Balance: Often extended as "As within, so without," it suggests that internal thoughts and spiritual state influence one's external reality. Wikipedia Wikipedia +4 Applications in Wiccan Practice Ritual Work: Creating a "miniature" reality within a circle to manifest a larger change in life. Ancestor Work: Recognizing that the spirits of the dead (now in the "above" or spirit realm) remain connected to their former lives (the "below"). Self-Development: The concept promotes focusing on spiritual growth to align with divine or natural energy, transforming oneself to manifest a better life.
A slightly different take on the theme of #AboveAndBelow
For #pagans and #Wiccans, the athame is not a weapon, but a ritual tool. We do not have formal churches, so we draw a line- a circles of protection- that becomes our sacred space. "As Above, so Below. As within, so without." #PNW

Monochrome image of the upper facade of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. There are four figures fiercely leaning away from the building, with open mouths and terrible expressions. The corner of the limestone facade has decorative arches and trim. The gargoyles are placed for functional reasons as they are water spigots that force rainwater to drain away from the building for erosion prevention. They were also designed to be symbolic and decorative, as representative of evil to ward off evil forces and remind people of the perils of sin.
