Hope OK to post now, I missed yesterday's @robcrank68.bsky.social #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfTheMonth. My best bird capture/s of March were first singing Chiffchaff of the year and two pairs of Great Crested Grebes displaying at Linlithgow Loch, 15 March.
No Alt Theme yesterday.

I'm sharing a couple of hummingbird images for #bestofthemonth #birdoftheday.

The Anna's Hummingbird is a year-round resident, and the Rufous Hummingbird recently returned from its winter home.

Treecreepers are so fun to watch corkscrew up trees foraging for insects/arachnids in the bark, here are some of my favorites from the bird I saw on Saturday on Foster Island in #Seattle.

Not a good pic at all, but as I was getting some shots of 2 ravens out front I was photobombed by a mighty Hummingbird.

Hard to tell, but best guess based on the regulars at my feeder is Anna's or Broad-billed.

These are perhaps not #BestOfTheMonth but I did like them. Carolina wrens collecting nest material, which they wouldn't take to the nest site as long as I was watching: very cautious birds! And well coordinated in getting sturdy and soft nest stuff

The waterfowl suddenly scattered, then this bald eagle swooped in from behind me for low passes over the lake.

My #BirdOfTheDay theme #BestOfTheMonth is a pretty Cassin Kingbird at #sanfranciso #fortmason . Don't think we'll see any others for a while. I was one of the few to see it. Living up to being a flycatcher as it snagged lunch & hung around for 15 mins letting me take shots. #birds #nature #wildlife

One last round of images before the end of the month. This Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) spent almost ten minutes stretching and preening earlier today.

My best of the month isnโ€™t my best photo but my best encounter. I saw a bird fly into a tree and I thought, I donโ€™t think that was a woodpigeon. Aimed my camera at the really distant tree and got a blurry pic of a not-woodpigeon :))

Great Egret, at the top of a cypress tree. Largest of the egrets, all white with long black legs and a long, very sharp, yellow beak. Distinctive green eye mask. Long feathers on hand for that special time of year here in central Florida. The breeding plumage is gently blown away and behind of the bird, facing into the wind. Setting sun lighting the bird and branches with that special glow.

Was lucky enough to catch a wonderful hero shot of a Great Egret earlier this month. Mating season plumage blowing out behind the bird, great setting sun lighting. Hope that you like it!

Photo of a Male Mandarin Duck. A most amazing and almost ridiculously colourful and ornate bird with its bright orange cheek and wing feathers, its beautiful head which is coloured from its beak over the top of its crown starting with rich green then blue then dark ochre then blue again with pale around the eyes leading back to a white stripe amongst green. The body is similarly coloured with areas of purple, black, white, buff, blue and green all sharply demarcated, topped off with orange legs and a red beak. This one is standing, slightly turned away in a shallow part of the dark river bed

My #BestOfTheMonth have to be the photos of the Mandarin Drake who most obligingly displayed to see off a rival just as we were walking along the riverbank

Photo of a pair of Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus) mating on their nest. These fish-eating water-birds have longish, pointed beaks, longish necks, long bodies (with feet right at the back, ideal for swimming, but not for walking on land), and next to no tails. The face, the front of the neck, and the underside of the body are all whitish, while the back of the neck, the back and the wings are brown-grey in colour. Each bird of this pair has a crest of black feathers on top of the head, and a ruff of feathers (orange at the base, turning to black) around the top of the neck. The female is lying down on the nest (a pile of vegetation on a tiny island in a lake) while the male is sat upright on her rear end, with his legs stretched out in front of him for balance. Out of focus in the background are various branches of waterside trees. The water is a golden brown colour, as it reflects the waterside trees (leafless at this time of year) which are lit up by the late afternoon sun which is low in the sky.

The theme for #BirdOfTheDay today is #BestOfTheMonth. This image from yesterday is not technically my best pic of March 2026, but given the behaviour captured and how far away these Great Crested Grebes were, Iโ€™m very pleased with it. The golden evening light helps too. #Birds #UKWildlife #EKC ๐ŸŒฟ
