I always forget how to do 'anything but' matches in #bash

ls *[^m].1.fq.gz

Will match files that end in `.1.fq.gz`, *unless* they have an `m` immediately before the suffix.

i.e.,

NSPB-M3.1.fq.gz

matches, but

NSPB-M3.rem.1.fq.gz

doesn't.
