3rd Mar 1626 William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire, died aged 73. He a son of William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick of Chatsworth.

That’s a proper cadaver effigy (rolled mat, shroud knotted at head &relatively early stage of decomposition). It’s George Sydenham Archdeacon & royal chaplain (d.1524) in Salisbury Cathedral. I have a bit of a special interest in 16thC cadaver tombs & this one is wonderful #cadavertomb #transitomb
