Story behind the photo: I was birding the John Brown Trails one spring morning, camera in hand, hot on the trail of a Common Yellowthroat. I finally got my bird in focus when I heard the sound of thundering dog paws coming my way. I could tell by the yips of anticipatory joy and the owner’s unheeded cries that the dogs were jumpers, but I refused to be diverted. It was, after all, my first Yellowthroat sighting of the spring, so I kept my finger on the shutter button. The two big dogs flung themselves on me with delight, making me miss what would probably have been my finest shot. But the dogs weren’t through with me. The big brown one promptly lifted his leg and peed with great gusto on my jeans and shoes, marking me as his territory! The things we go through to get a photo!
For #SmallBirdSaturday, I offer a #CommonYellowthroat. For the story behind the photo (which involves large, unleashed dogs), see the Alt. wildadirondacks.org/adirondack-w...
