Common Grackles are glossy blackbirds, but in sunlight, they display iridescent, metallic colors including purple and steel-blue on their heads, and bronzy-purple on their bodies. Males are more vibrant, while females are duller, often appearing dark brown. Both sexes have bright yellow eyes and long, dark tails. These two birds were perched on brown branches of a tree with more branches and blue sky in the background. Seen at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts.
