Von Spielzeug zu Kunst Teil 2 von 2 des Reiseberichts 2025.5 Nürnberg Reisebericht: 2025.5 Nürnberg Ein verlängertes Wochenende mit der Blogoma (4 Teile) * Zwischen Zügen und Katzen * Von Spielzeug zu Kunst weitere Reiseberichte Den leicht vernieselten Morgen des 04.10. begann ich mit einer kleine Laufrunde durch Nürnberg. Es war noch dunkel, daher gab es nicht wirklich viel zu sehen, aber für ein Bild vom Henkersteg reichte es doch. Henkersteg Nach dem Frühstück fuhren wir mit der U Bahn in Richtung Hauptmarkt und stiegen Lorenzkirche aus. Wir spazierten gemütlich über die Museumsbrücke bis zum Hauptmarkt, wo gerade die Stände geöffnet wurden. Nürnberger U-Bahn Lorenzkirche Kaiserburg Nassauer Haus Heilig-Geist-Spital Narrenschiffbrunnen Frauenkirche Nürnberg Schöner Brunnen und Sebalduskirche Schöner Brunnen Frauenkirche und Schöner Brunnen Eigentlich wollten wir hier mit der Bimmelbahn eine Rundfahrt starten, aber aus Gründen wurde der Start verlegt. So entschieden wir uns spontan den Besuch des Spielzeugmuseums vorzuziehen. #### Verspielte Geschichte Nürnberg ist Spielzeugstadt mit langer Tradition. Das Spielzeugmuseum[1] befasst sich aber nicht nur mit Nürnberger Spielzeug, sondern mit Spielzeug im Allgemeinen, auch im Kontext der menschlichen Geschichte. Von einfachen Dingen, die als Spielzeug genutzt wurden, bis hin zu aufwändigen Baukastensystemen, das Museum zeigt einen großen Einblick in die Welt der Spielzeuge. #### Vom Fachwerk zu Dürer Nach dem Spielzeugmuseum spazieren wir durch die Weißgerbergasse, da das Wetter trüb und nieselig war, war auch nicht sonderlich viel los und der Blick auf die Fachwerkhäuser war frei, bevor es die Albrecht-Dürer-Straße hinauf ging. Am Ende des für Mama beschwerlichen Aufstiegs befindet sich nicht nur das Tiergärtnertor, sondern auch das Albrecht-Dürer-Haus. Im ehemaligen Wohn- und Schaffenshaus Dürers befindet sich heute ein Museum rund um den Künstler. Weißgerbergasse Hl. Dank des Audioguides kann man sich alles in Ruhe und mit viel zusätzlichen Informationen ansehen. Sehr beengt, aber dennoch auch praktisch eingerichtet. Auf jeden Fall ein Besuch wert. Da sich zwischenzeitlich die Sonne zeigte, nutzten wir die Gelegenheit für Kaffee und Kuchen im Restaurant _Zum Albrecht Dürer Haus_[2]. #### Runden im Regen Danach fuhren mit Tram und Bus zum Jakobsplatz. Von hier startete die Bimmelbahn mit der Stadtrundfahrt. Kaum fuhren wir los, begann es auch wieder mit dem Regen. Ehekarussell Weißer Turm Bimmelbahn St. Jakobskirche Nürnberg Die Bahn kurvte in und um die Altstadt herum, entlang des Frauentorgrabens, Westtorgrabens oder an der Kaiserburg vorbei. So konnten wir immerhin im Trockenen doch noch ein bisschen was sehen. Aber auch diese Rundfahrt war nach knapp einer Stunde schon wieder vorbei und als wir danach mit der U Bahn an der Station Plärrer in die Tram umstiegen schüttete es so doll, dass wir einfach die Tram bis zur Endstation nutzten, um noch andere Ecken zu sehen. Glücklicherweise war der Regen aber auch schon wieder vorbei, als wir in Dutzendteich ankamen und in die S-Bahn zurück zum Hauptbahnhof fuhren, um von hier wieder zum Hauptmarkt zu gelangen. Der Abend war damit angebrochen und so kehrten wir bei _Kaspar Schmauser_[3] zum Abendessen ein. Albrecht Dürer’s Apocalypse _Revelation of St. John._ In Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson’s _Illuminatus!_ trilogy, John of Patmos, the author of the Book of Revelation, is referred to as “Saint John the Mushroom-head”, the suggestion being that the bizarre and grotesque scenes listed at the end of the Bible were the result of hallucinogenic frenzy. Mushroom-derived or not, John’s apocalyptic visions have fuelled the imagination of artists for a very long time, and in a wide variety of media. The earlier chapters of the New Testament are the more popular ones when it comes to adaptations but only the Book of Revelation has inspired two monuments of progressive rock: the _666_ album by Aphrodite’s Child, and _Supper’s Ready_ by Genesis. _Martyrdom of Saint John the Evangelist._ _Die Offenbarung St. Johannis_ (1900) is a recent upload at the Internet Archive which presents Albrecht Dürer’s magnificent set of Apocalypse woodcuts in a single volume. Multiple copies of the same prints may be found at Wikimedia Commons but sets of pictures there are always divided into separate pages; where possible, I prefer to have a book to leaf through. I love to pore over Dürer’s prints, they’re always crowded with tiny details rendered with great precision. The fifth plate in this series, showing the arrival of the Four Horsemen, is the one you see reproduced most often, and it’s a typically cramped composition; Dürer was an artist who often seemed to want to cram as much as possible into the available space. Some of the later plates in the series have the same powerful sense of occult strangeness that you find in the best alchemical engravings, especially plate eleven which shows John being instructed by an angel with a blazing face to eat a book. The Biblical text describes the angel as appearing suspended over columns of fire, but Dürer shows the columns as a pair of architectural limbs that happen to be burning at their terminations.
