#FOH2025
The Festival of Homiletics has been so good for my spirit. I appreciate the hundreds of pastors who came together to hear challenging and inspiring words.
It’s not the time to shrink back, but to speak up!

A pause before the last segment of this year’s Festival of Homiletics in Atlanta. #FOH2025
"We are not called to perfection, but to faithfulness."- Otis Moss III #FOH2025
Rev. Dr. Moss reminding us as the distinction between calling and being called, the value of being continually in calling rather than statically called. #FOH2025
Otis Moss III piercing me right in the heart (once again) with a powerful sermon at #FOH2025. “The God we serve is not shaped by the borders of a nation but is beyond.” / “Do you want comfort or to hold to your calling?” / “What happens when we hold our peace and refuse to speak?”
He emphasizes the importance of speaking rather than refraining, reminding us of our responsibility to keep our convictions rather than what is easy. #FOH2025
Starting the final morning of #FOH2025 with OTMIII/Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III. Grateful.
You know what’s awesome?
The hotel’s fire alarm going off at 4:00am. Awesome.
#foh2025, If you see me nodding off today, no you didn’t.
"Don't shrink back for silent respectibility..." Rev. Dr. Melva Samson brings truth to us preachers at the Festival of Homiletics. #FOH2025
The Jesus story is not an exam to learn content. It is about following. It is not about maintaining an institution but changing our world. Rev. Dr. Brian Blount at the Festival of Homiletics. #FOH2025
Our role as community is to be so welcoming that we give a glimpse of God. Rev. Dr. Joy Moore at the Festival of Homiletics. #FOH2025
A member of the Trans community gave a lecture to hundreds of church ministers at the Festival of Homiletics about the importance of welcoming and we did not kick them out because it is God's house. #foh2025
Just heard Dr. David Gushee give an incredible lecture on the Moral Teachings of Jesus based on his book, After Evangelicalism. I feel seen and heard… and reminded of who Jesus is. #FOH2025
A white man stands at a dark brown wooden pulpit with a blank, black screen behind him.
Afternoon starts for me with Brent Strawn, a man famous to me because my text-focused undergrad made us read his book in about every class. Excited to listen to his perspective on preaching and Deuteronomy. #FOH2025
Discussing the change of heart regarding Peter and Cornelius' family: "The people God has called good we should not call unacceptable."- @austenhartke.bsky.social #FOH2025
Excited also to hear from the brilliant Austen Hartke, discussing binaries and mystery. #FOH2025
A man stands at a wooden pulpit. Behind him is a screen saying "Repairer of the Breach" and identifies him as Rev. Dr. Jared Alcántara.
Wednesday at the #FOH2025- beginning with Rev. Dr. Jared Alcántara, speaking about our responsibility to be repairers of the breach.
A woman in a red dress behind a dark pulpit. Behind her, light streams down against the wall. She is preaching.
This was, for me, the best session so far. Highly recommend her afternoon session. Praise be to God. #FOH2025
"Preaching isn't about resale or profit."- Anna Carter Florence #FOH2025
"Jeremiah (buying his cousin's burner out field during occupation) isn't about getting a profit. Jeremiah is about going public."- Anna Carter Florence, on Jeremiah 31-32 #FOH2025
From Dr. Melva Sampson:
“We’re healed not by running from the truth, but confronting it.” / “Prophetic witness is not a spiritual elective; it is the Church‘s birthright.” / “We have to refuse to trade the thunder of the prophets for the hush of respectability.” #FOH2025
Day 2 of #FOH2025 began with a powerful sermon by The Rev. Dr. Melva Sampson on the topic “Don’t Shrink Back.” It’s very difficult to describe a sermon that soars, pulls back to moments of quiet, inspires, challenges, convicts & brings both laughter and tears. She most definitely brought the word.
Blount: Much better when I..."spent less energy content-ing him (Jesus) and more time imitating him." #FOH2025
"Faithing is following." Blount, helping us consider the difference between belief and faith and speaking on the necessity of distinguishing between the two. #FOH2025
Now Dr. Brian Blount: "We must exchange our beliefs for something more durable: faith." #FOH2025
“Why do Christians confuse faith with what we believe?”
