We studied House Sparrows, a human commensal with biparental care.

📍 Tropical South India (continuous breeding system)
🏡 Rural (n=98 nests; natural foraging)
🏙️ Urban (n=85 nests; supplemented food)

We quantified multiple parental behaviours across populations.

Granite outcrops in the Santhal Pargana uplands act as ecological islands supporting specialized flora and fauna. Yet these rocky ecosystems remain poorly documented in eastern India.

“A field researcher standing in a rocky, scrub-covered upland landscape in Santhal Pargana. He is wearing a white shirt and binoculars around his neck, surrounded by dry-season vegetation, vines, and granite boulders in the background. Sunlight highlights the mixed sal–scrub habitat and the rugged terrain.”

Santhal Pargana’s granite uplands: stone, heat and quiet movement.
Ridges and scrub here shape every trail — langurs, civets, jackals, raptors, all crossing the same mosaic.
Biodiversity reveals itself only when you walk slow and watch closely.

Life on the Rocks — Granite Outcrop Ecology (Eastern India)

Transect-based microhabitat sampling across granite ridges in Santhal Pargana. Thin (~4–5 cm) dark veins observed, suggesting micro-scale thermal variation.

Baseline faunal data collection underway.

One of the cutest finds from my Field Ecology Lab this past semester: a Rio Grande Leopard Frog (Eleutherodactylus cystignathoides)!

What if you are good at many things as a scientist from #fieldecology to #statisticalecology but you just cannot grasp scientific English language? What if you make strong collaborations by doing on-ground conservation actions without trying to spend hours writing about it in English?

Out in the Pentlands yesterday with the first-year field ecology students, playing the role of ‘grass specialist’. Shared some ID tips for common UK grasses –fingers crossed I converted a few into budding grass enthusiasts. 🌾👀 #grassgang #fieldecology

Logitech's tiny radar sensors could let managers see if a cubicle is occupied The Spot is basically a peel-and-stick pebble that uses radar to detect people's presence. It can see about 16 feet in front of it and also sense...

These things could record animal behavior and lifecycles in situ. Wonder how expensive they are, and how many you can use in a given area. Thinking of scattering a bunch of them around a prairie dog burrow, for instance.
