We took a hike in the strict protected area deep in BiaΕowieΕΌa Forest, and found the beautiful β and rare β Rhodotus palmatus, the wrinkled peach (among others)! π΅π±π #fieldmycology
On my way to BiaΕowieΕΌa Forest to help in the #FieldMycology summer school 'from fungal morphology to genotype'. This is the 5th edition, and my 2nd time participating as teacher. Very excited to be in one of the last remaining parts of the ancient forest once covering northeastern Europe.
Most cup fungi don't fluoresce a lot, but ultraviolet light reveals unusual chemistry in this unknown Helotiales from Monteverde, Costa Rica.

A black ink engraving of a strange cat-like creature pawing at a patch of mushrooms. Next to it a caption reads, Fig. 1. The mycophilic lynx which prowls the frontispiece of Battarra's Fungorym agri Ariminensis historia (1755). Because your editor loves this l'il guy. Public domain image courtesy of Biblioteca del Real Jardin Botanico. Above this the last paragraph of the editorial can be made out: I hope you enjoy reading this issue. If you do please commend it to all your mycologically minded friends and relations, so we can regain the publication's previous circulation, online and in print.
This creature printed out nicely!

Five copies of a small magazine are fanned out against the background of a green sofa. The photographer holds the left hand copy in their hand, tilted towards the camera. The magazine bears the BMS logo and the title Field Mycology, underneath this is a macro photo of cream coloured fungi against a background of green liverwort thalluses (or thalli?)
TADAAA!
Oh they really look like a magazine! One for me, one for my Mum, one for the BMS Library at @rbgkew.bsky.social...

A brown paper package is pictured against the background of a green sofa. The photographer's right hand is pictured pulling a wadge of magazines out of the package. The bottom edge of the magazine can be glimpsed. The bottom of a photo of cream coloured cup fungi and underneath are the words "Published by the British Mycological Society".
Here they come!
Looks like I spelt British Mycological Society right. π

Image is very similar to the left hand imagine. A white package is held against a green sofa. The photographer's left hand can be seen holding the corner of the package.
Double bagged!
The tension builds...
