Yesterday's #hedgewatch included a sand #beach. In the video you see #sand transported by the #wind . Some particles roll & some jump. The latter mechanism is called saltation in #geology Its also pawt of #dune formation in the #desert

Today: during #hedgewatch in #Switzerland we found this deformed #rock. It underwent #ductil #deformation so that this #fold made of #quartz formed. During deformation material can move from the limbs to the hinge so that the hinge becomes thicker.

Today #GeologyWithCats! We found this #drillcore it's a #sandstone. The white layers had large pores with #water in it. When #sediment was accumulated the pressure was growing & finally the water was squeezed out upwards-its a water escape structure.

Today is the 1st #VolcanoThursday of 2025. This is the #Orotava #valley on #Tenerife formed by a gigantic #landslide. The island was growing so fast that its flanks became unstable & collapsed. At least 500 km3 #rock's moved down causing a #tsunami
