A glass of 2017 Chateau de Saint Cosme next to tonight’s musical accompaniment, Turn It Over by the Tony Williams Lifetime. I was a little too young for this originally - Mahavishnu was where I came in to this kind of stuff. It would have been a lot better without Tony’s singing and lyrics - but at the end of the day (whisper it quietly) McLaughlin has never struck me as an emotionally satisfying guitarist.
#12bottlesofChristmas #10 is a #SaintCosme 2017 #Gigondas. I’ve already had the 2016, which was lovely. This is an interesting contrast - more austere, which I think I was expecting, and more tannic, which I wasn’t. In short, possibly a bit too young. But it will come round - I trust #LouisBarruol.

Purple in color with a wide purplish rim. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with mild complexity. Showing raspberries, cherries, spices, chocolates and peppercorn. Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. Elegant and nicely balanced. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. Good right out of the bottle with good structure. A good quality wine. A blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre. Aged in concrete vats. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $30.

2022 Kirkland (yes, Costco) Gigondas that I got as a work gift. Dried leaves, blood/iron, black cherry and olive tapenade. Med. body, lengthy finish, grippy but not overpowering tannins. The iron/blood note is most prevalent on the palate. Overall get the hype. A.
