A large limpet - a snail-like gastropod mollusk with a flat shell - sits in a shallow channel on a rocky reef. Its black mantle extends partially over the margin of its ridged, cream-colored shell, and the “keyhole” in the top of its shell - a port through which waste is released - is clearly visible.
