The Royal Hotel in Bideford has a unique first floor doorway onto the platform of the former rail station for the ultimate convenience of long-departed passengers. The station & line (the 'Withered Arm' of the LSWR) closed in the mid-1960s - yet the platforms, signals and hotel entrance remain.

The remains of a wooden railway van (built by the London & South Western Railway) partly covered in ivy. One of the characteristic diagonal braces is visible, as is the lower side beam, which has various rusted iron bolts and straps attached. In front of the van, a hand holds up a grey resin body of a model of the same van. The model is in Gauge 3, 1:22.6, so is about 9” long

All for a display on Trade and Transport (beer and strawberries above, will also include bricks and coal) at Bishops Waltham museum from 3rd May. Need to get on with it!

Wagon side, a test piece of a LSWR 4 plank wagon, to test materials tools and techniques before starting on the kit. It’s built in basswood, scored to represent planking, with clear plastic strip for the simplified iron strapping. Glue used is super ‘phatic, so used clear plastic to test the spread and hold

Finally started building that LSWR 4-plank wagon that I’ve put off for too long.
This is a test piece in wood to try out techniques, tools and materials.
Need to finish before a weathering course this weekend. Amazing how a deadline shifts a stuck project! 😁
