A high-detail, moody macro photograph of the book "Cumbria In Verse" by Alden Carrow resting on a jagged, lichen-covered outcrop of dark volcanic rock. In the blurred background, the sharp, mist-shrouded ridge of Great Gable stretches into a cold, atmospheric April sky. The lighting is natural and dramatic, highlighting the tactile texture of the cream-colored book paper against the ancient, weathered grit of the mountain. Cinematic, earthy tones, 8k resolution, professional landscape photography style.

If you have walked any of these:
Helvellyn. Haystacks. Great Gable. Blencathra. Scafell. Catbells. There is a poem written at your exact location.

A high-contrast, cinematic photograph of Ennerdale Water under a heavy, bruised April sky. The foreground features sharp, geological details of jagged slate and damp moss. In the mid-ground, the dark, still water of the lake reflects the surrounding fells. A single, rusted industrial pipe or a sharp metallic line of infrastructure cuts subtly through the wild shoreline, leading the eye toward a hazy, distant horizon. Muted earth tones, 35mm film grain, capturing the tension between ancient stone and modern industrial utility.

Ennerdale. Wild, rewilded, deliberately restored.
Also: 'tethered to the cooling requirements of Sellafield.' The book holds both without flinching.
That's the only way to write about Cumbria honestly.

A cinematic, moody photograph of Lodore Falls in Cumbria. The focus is on the towering, wet slate crags that lean inward, creating a narrow, resonant stone chamber. The water is a soft, ethereal veil against the dark, jagged rock. Deep greens of moss and ancient ferns cling to the crevices. Low-hanging mist is trapped between the rock faces, blurring the top of the falls. High texture detail on the damp, dark stone surfaces. Atmospheric, somber lighting with a 35mm film aesthetic, capturing the tension between the permanent stone and the fleeting water.

Lodore Falls:
'No roar escapes; the resonance is held between the leaning faces of the crag.' Some places trap their own weather. Their own sound.
You have to go inside to hear it. Link: buff.ly/R8zNsCO

A cinematic, high-detail photograph of a minimalist book cover titled 'Cumbria In Verse' resting on a damp drystone slate wall. In the blurred background, the soft, hazy silhouette of Lake District fells meets the sharp, metallic geometry of a distant industrial crane at a coastal port. The lighting is the muted, silvery grey of a North Cumbrian afternoon. Grounded, tactile textures of green moss and orange lichen on the stone. 35mm film aesthetic, moody and atmospheric.

76 poems. One for every significant location in Cumbria. Not just the fells. Not just the lakes.
The industrial coast. The nuclear port. The capped mine shafts. The rewilded valley. All of it. Link: buff.ly/FXN5yyQ

The labradors had just been fed and are sitting on the rocks above the lake. One cream and One black. They are watching me eat my lunch and hoping for some banana. Of course I obliged

Today's big walk took in Helton Fell, The Knott, Loadpot Hill and Bonscale Fell above Ullswater. A chilly but super sunny day in the Lake District. By late afternoon the clouds had come in. Dogs asleep and so will I shortly ;-)
