Wrote a very quick write up of our session at #Mathsconf39 about using Variation Theory in #AlevelMaths including the PPT that we used.
If you came to the session and have any feedback for us please do let me know here or via email chelekmaths@gmail.com

Also wrote this as an extension in #MathsToday based on the awesome session by @mathsmuse.bsky.social from #Mathsconf39
This weekend I did a session at #mathsconf39 about algebraic thinking, and included some tasks on sequences. It got me thinking about some nice links I used to make with my Level 2 Further Maths and A-Level pupils.
I wrote about it in my blog here:

This sounds really interesting. Will you be sharing anything from your session for those of us who couldn’t make #mathsconf39 ?
Made this for my Year 7s and Year 8s tomorrow after @joausten.bsky.social's fab session on Number Sense at #Mathsconf39. Will be very interesting to see how it goes!

Possibly. Also I mentioned MathsJam to a few people at #MathsConf39 (so, by definition, choosing to do a maths thing in personal time - and paying for it) and almost all of them said "I'd worry that I'm not good enough at maths to go to something like that."
Something I thought at #MathsConf39:
I know music teachers who're in choirs; English teachers who read (voraciously) at home; PE teachers in football teams; & history teachers who often visit museums.
But most maths teachers I know don't go anywhere near the subject when they're not working.

Another theme that poppee up a few times at #MathsConf39: reclaiming maths as something to enjoy as a hobby, rather than just a subject that we only engage with as part of our jobs.
If you're someone who'd like to explore that, I wholly recommend looking up your local MathsJam: MathsJam.com

Don Steward algebra task with all answers 9n
Yesterday I spoke about patterns in Don Steward's answers at #mathsconf39. Coincidentally I was revising with my Y7 daughter this morning (she has a test tomorrow) & gave her two of Don's algebra pyramids. She was delighted to get the same answer twice so I checked the rest... :)
If you got a 4489/6-7 badge yesterday, can you post a picture of it here !! #MathsConf39 👇👇👇
The hidden quadratics one that I suggested at the end! 😉 #Mathsconf39
During our #MathsConf39 session, Jason and I revealed our new project: The History and Maths in Education Network (historyand.mathsy.space) which aims to facilitate discussion and sharing of resources & ideas amongst folks interested in using history themes to enrich maths education.

Had a great day at #MathsConf39! The sessions were great (so pleased as the turnout for ours!), but as always the most useful bits were the conversations with inspiring and interested folk (& catching up with old friends!)
Thank you to so many of you (30+) teachers and tutors coming to my #Mathsconf39 workshop! To those that have missed it (and those that want to see what I shared), I'll be sharing the materials (though not the exam questions themselves!) at a later point. Feel free to DM me if you want it quicker!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended #MathsConf39!
It was fantastic to see so many passionate maths educators coming together to share ideas, resources, and inspiration. Events like this remind us how powerful collaboration can be in shaping better experiences for our students.

The Mathematicians’ Library: The Books That Unlicked The Power of Numbers by Thomas K Briggs
Having told @teakayb.mathsy.space that people would definitely want to come to his session, I really had to choose it for session 5! Loved hearing about the research Tom and Jason carried out about embedding history into maths lessons. I’m also looking forward to reading Tom’s book #MathsConf39
By the afternoon I’d given up on taking photos, but I still found it really interesting to hear about how @justmaths.bsky.social gets such brilliant results from her pupils. Building belief, clear communication and no excuses underpinning everything #MathsConf39

Buzzing with #maths in my head!
Thanks to @lasalleed.bsky.social.
Bonus meeting friends @atulrana.bsky.social @elgarmaths.bsky.social @annlovesmaths.bsky.social, those I’ve met virtually and networking.
Here’s to the #maths community. May the maths flow ‘♾️ly’.
Amazing seeing so many of my heroes at #Mathsconf39 today. Such a brilliant day! @justmaths.bsky.social @mathsjem.bsky.social David Faram, @mrsdenyer.bsky.social Julia @mrmattock.bsky.social @drfrostmaths.bsky.social too excited & forgot to take pictures!
“How I teach standard form It’s all about place value No between 1 and 10, it’s all about significance. Introduce with number sentences. Give a chance to talk indices early on. Can use counting as a back up, but not the primary way so number of zeros errors happen less often”
Always fascinating to get a window on how other people teach specific topics; like this from @jwrightmaths.bsky.social in session 3 #MathsConf39
