This weekend I did a session at #mathsconf39 about algebraic thinking, and included some tasks on sequences. It got me thinking about some nice links I used to make with my Level 2 Further Maths and A-Level pupils.

Possibly. Also I mentioned MathsJam to a few people at #MathsConf39 (so, by definition, choosing to do a maths thing in personal time - and paying for it) and almost all of them said "I'd worry that I'm not good enough at maths to go to something like that."

Something I thought at #MathsConf39:
I know music teachers who're in choirs; English teachers who read (voraciously) at home; PE teachers in football teams; & history teachers who often visit museums.
But most maths teachers I know don't go anywhere near the subject when they're not working.

Another theme that poppee up a few times at #MathsConf39: reclaiming maths as something to enjoy as a hobby, rather than just a subject that we only engage with as part of our jobs.

Don Steward algebra task with all answers 9n
Yesterday I spoke about patterns in Don Steward's answers at #mathsconf39. Coincidentally I was revising with my Y7 daughter this morning (she has a test tomorrow) & gave her two of Don's algebra pyramids. She was delighted to get the same answer twice so I checked the rest... :)

The Mathematicians’ Library: The Books That Unlicked The Power of Numbers by Thomas K Briggs
Having told @teakayb.mathsy.space that people would definitely want to come to his session, I really had to choose it for session 5! Loved hearing about the research Tom and Jason carried out about embedding history into maths lessons. I’m also looking forward to reading Tom’s book #MathsConf39
