Early Grey - always a superb moth to see arriving back to the garden. This one is from earlier in March #moths #mothing #teammoth #lepidoptera #insects #macrophotography
Moth at rest on a sheet at night, attracted by a blacklight. Moth is vaguely iridescent beige, with chain-like markings of reddish brown. Moth is facing up. 🔝
Blacklighting again, because it is still 79 degrees F, in the front yard this time. I believe this beauty is a Bethune’s Pinion, a type of owlet moth in the family Noctuidae. #bugsky #moths #mothing #insects
@norfolkmoths.bsky.social A good haul on 17/3. 182/15 including pine beauty (nfg), oak beauty, brindled pug and shoulder stripe (nfg). #moths #norfolkmoths #mothing
Despite the full moon and a drop in temperature, we had two Early Greys in our Selsey garden trap this morning.

@norfolkmoths.bsky.social A good start to the year on Tues night. Earliest for me. 39/11 including small brindled, pale brindled and oak beauty; twin-spot, small and common quaker, spring usher, dotted border and march moth. #teammoth #mothing #norfolkmoths
Finally, a moth other than LBAM! A Common Plume to get some 2026 mothing under way.

At Crystal Cove State Beach yesterday, surprised to see this female Autographa californica (aka Alfalfa looper) noctuid moth furiously nectaring on Deerweed. Only the second observation there on iNaturalist. #noctuid #moths #mothing #lepidoptera #nature
Was expecting more than just a single Chestnut last night, as it was calm and relatively mild. That's #mothing. #teammoth
Opinions on this Acleris, por favor. My money is on schalleriana, which I've had before. However, app is saying all sorts depending on the angle. Fair to say my #mothing year is up and running with a good old head scratcher. #teammoth
After a grim week with flu, I was cheered up by finding this beauty in my porch this morning. Angle Shades, Selsey VC13
#mothing #moths #teammoth
Clifden Nonpareil (Catocala fraxini).
The Clifden Nonpareil is the most surprising moth I've encountered this year. The holy grail of #mothing was not something I ever imagined would be in my garden. It's difficult to appreciate this moth's size, so I wish I had taken a picture of it next to another moth. #mothmonday #macromonday #moths
Still a few moths about in north #Fife. A well-marked Mottled Umber and a male December Moth with cracking antennae from last night’s catch. #moths #mothing @mothiduk.bsky.social @nature.org @naturescot.bsky.social @scotwildlife.bsky.social

Just micros in the trap this morning, including Tree-mallow Tortrix and Rusty Dot Pearl. VC13 #moths #mothing
Angle Shades, Blair's Shoulder-knot, along with 2 Palpita vitrealis and 5 Rusty Dot Pearls in our Selsey porch trap this morning. VC13
#moths #mothing
This Common Plume was in my porch this morning. They are very hardy, overwintering as adults. VC13
#moths #mothing
Oak Rustic, along with a Palpita vitrealis and a Rusty Dot Pearl kept a Eurovision humiliation at bay. VC13
#moths #mothing
Oak Rustic in our Selsey garden trap this morning with a supporting cast of 3 Palpita vitrealis, a Silver Y, and at least 8 Rusty Dot Pearls. VC13
#moths #mothing #teammoth
This Dark Arches was the only surprise in the trap this morning. Two Silver Ys and half a dozen Rusty Dot Pearl's were the only others of note. VC13

November Moth agg
The #mothing didn't live up to my own hype last soir. 9/6 here in VC27, with a pair of Feathered Thorn, a Barred Sallow and this poseur of a November Moth agg the highlights. Better than not, I suppose. #teammoth
Two Palpita vitrealis in our Selsey garden trap. Rusty Dot Pearl's are still numerous, with at least five this morning. VC13 #moths #mothing #teammoth
Some well camouflaged #moths recorded in N #Fife last night. Grey Pine Carpet, Feathered Thorn, Scarce Umber, Mottled Umber #wildlife #mothing #camouflage
Uncertain (I think 🤔) and Clancy's Rustic saved the day in our Selsey garden trap. VC13
#moths #mothing #teammoth
On the mothing front, a Feathered Ranunculus and a White-point saved the day, along with a Rusty-dot Pearl and a couple of LB Apple Moths. VC13

Just put the traps out with fingers crossed! Three or four bats were out already, flying around the house.
