The Orange Underwing (Archiearis parthenias) flies around the leafless canopy of mature birch trees on sunny, still days in early spring 🌳

They rarely descend low enough for close inspection, so binoculars are a must!

The grayish tan abdomen peeks out from under the wings. A very small grayish moth is to the Carpenterworm Moth's side and a tiny black fly is to the upper left of the frame.

Here are some better photos of the Carpenterworm Moth, Prionoxystus robiniae, which visited last night.😁. This was a rather large (2 inches/ 5.08 cm) moth.

This rather dapper moth is the Liquorice Piercer (Grapholita pallifrontana), our Species of the Month. ✨

The Liquorice Piercer is so named because its caterpillars pierce Wild Liquorice seed pods.
